Over the past ten years, My Hero Academia has become a hugely popular manga and anime. The series was created by Kohei Horikoshi, who recently celebrated the anime’s 10th anniversary with a new illustration of the character Himiko Toga, a beloved villain. Though the manga concluded in 2024, fans are excited by these continued contributions from Horikoshi and hope he’ll create more work in the future.

Kohei Horikoshi Reveals New Illustration For 10th Anniversary Project

The My Hero Academia anime recently celebrated its tenth anniversary, a major achievement for the series. It first aired on April 3, 2016, and fans eagerly awaited a special message from the creator, Kohei Horikoshi. He didn’t disappoint, quickly sharing a brand-new illustration on his X (formerly Twitter) account, @horikoshiko.

Apologies for the delayed response, and Happy New Year! Congratulations on the anime reaching its 10th anniversary – that’s fantastic! I was just mentioning the blood dress and Ga-chan, something I came up with to pass the time.

This artwork presents a fresh, original design for Himiko Toga, a key villain in the series. The new look really emphasizes Toga’s power, which revolves around blood. Many fans loved the design so much they wished it had been included in the manga itself. However, it was likely too detailed for the weekly production schedule, as the manga’s creator was already very busy and under pressure.

Breaking Down The Evolution Of League Of Villains Icon

The League of Villains is a famously memorable group of bad guys in anime, and they appeared relatively early in My Hero Academia with their leader, Shigaraki. However, Shigaraki wasn’t the only standout member; Himiko Toga is another fascinating character. Her story explores themes of love and self-acceptance, something she was never able to find with her family or those closest to her.

It’s sad how Toga became a villain, especially since it might have been prevented. Thankfully, the author, Horikoshi, gave her a meaningful ending: Ochaco Uraraka accepted her as a person before she tragically died in the final battle.

Gauging Himiko Toga’s Role In The Upcoming Special Episode

The anime adaptation of My Hero Academia finished its main story in 2025 with the end of Season 8. However, there’s still one final episode planned, titled ‘MORE’, which will be released on May 2, 2026, to fully conclude the series.

Fans are really looking forward to this new release, and they’ll be happy to hear that Himiko Toga, a key member of the League of Villains, will play a significant role. The special episode appears to be set in the future of My Hero Academia, following the events of chapter 431 of the manga, where we see the characters as adults working as Pro Heroes. Even though Toga is deceased at this point in the story, her character will be revisited through Ochaco Uraraka, who formed a close connection with her, particularly during the final battle.

Why Kohei Horikoshi Will Return To Shonen Jump Soon

Following the release of his new illustration, fans are eager for Kohei Horikoshi to start creating work for Weekly Shonen Jump again. Given his incredible talent and history with the magazine, most believe his absence won’t be permanent.

I’m still hoping to see Horikoshi-sensei back in Jump someday, but there haven’t been any announcements about that yet. He has mentioned wanting to start a new manga, and he even said he was working on designs for it! We haven’t gotten any big updates since then, but I’m keeping my fingers crossed we’ll see something new from him in the next few years. It’s definitely possible!
