My Hero Academia: Heroes With Villainous Quirks

Summary

  • Eraserhead’s Quirk could be a nightmare for heroes if used for villainy.
  • Shihai could evade capture using the darkness for crimes but focuses on good deeds.
  • Uwabami’s snakes could aid in seeking victims, ideal for a villain to exploit.

In the universe of My Hero Academia, it’s essential to have a unique power, or Quirk, to become a hero. However, not every guardian of peace has a power that appears particularly useful or cooperative at first glance. Interestingly, some heroes have acquired Quirks that, on the surface, seem better suited for villains, enabling them to leverage self-serving and dubious abilities to further their questionable agendas.

In the world of “My Hero Academia”, it’s not as if heroes can employ these Quirks without drawing attention, because throughout the series, we’ve seen characters face harsh judgment from civilians, heroes, and villains for using their powers in questionable ways. The path to heroism was more challenging for these characters due to their dubious and sinister abilities, but their burning desire to save and safeguard those in distress propelled them forward, enabling them to reach their goals despite the hand they were dealt.

8. Eraserhead

Shutting Down A Hero’s Quirk In An Instant Would Make Aizawa A Tricky Villain To Pin Down

  • First Appearance: Episode 5

It’s extremely improbable that Aizawa, given his character, would resort to villainy and utilize his Quirk for such purposes. However, if hypothetically speaking, he chose a darker path, his unique ability would have made him a formidable challenge for the heroes. As his hero name suggests, Eraserhead possesses the power to halt someone’s use of their Quirk as long as he maintains visual contact with them continuously. This power could potentially disable All Might’s One For All or Endeavor’s Hellflame, making it simpler for him to evade capture. Fortunately for the heroes, Aizawa is on their side.

In his role as a Pro Hero, Aizawa typically assumes a supportive position. He frequently uses his Quirk from behind the scenes to incapacitate enemies by disabling their special abilities. However, when necessary, he isn’t shy about joining the action. Unfortunately, or perhaps fortunately, Aizawa’s powerful Quirk ended up in the hands of an idle but endearing Pro Hero instead of a villain, thus averting potential catastrophe.

7. Shihai Kuroiro

Shihai Could Easily Escape A Crime Scene By Merging With Darkness And Making A Getaway

  • First Appearance: Episode 16

Having the knack to blend with the very essence of darkness is an extraordinary talent that can be utilized in rather distinctive manners, as vividly displayed by its wielder, Shihai, who gets to exhibit this skill during the Joint Training arc. Shihai possesses the power to vanish into a shadow swiftly and then reappear at his desired location. As long as he steers clear of overpowering light sources, Shihai can effortlessly conceal himself and make a hasty retreat, making it an ideal escape plan following the commission of a serious offense.

Regardless of the temptation to live a criminal life, Shihei preferred to dedicate his efforts towards understanding how he could employ his Quirk for beneficial purposes. Although his Quirk enables him to swiftly reach those in distress, there’s always an element of strangeness when observing a hero materialize from darkness to rescue the day.

6. Uwabami

Uwabami’s Snakes Would Be Useful For Seeking Out Vulnerable Victims If The Pro-Hero Ever Turned Evil

  • First Appearance: Episode 27

Despite minimal demonstrations of Uwabami’s Serpentress Quirk in the series, it is clarified that she employs her snakes to locate civilians in distress as well as nearby villains. In the climactic rescue mission, her serpents proved instrumental in guiding heroes towards those most injured or trapped under debris. However, given the menacing appearance of the snakes emerging from her head, it seems this Quirk is more typically associated with a villain rather than a hero. This isn’t solely due to the intimidating nature of the snakes but also because it might appear unconventional for a hero to use such an overtly aggressive ability.

Criminals are constantly seeking their next prey, and knowing where the weakest targets lie, as well as whether any protectors are nearby, would greatly facilitate even a common theft. Remarkably, Uwabami, who is not a villain herself, holds an ability that many on the wrong side would long for.

5. Momo Yaoyorozu

“Creation” Is A Simple Quirk That Would Have So Much Chaotic Potential In The Hands Of A Villain

  • First Appearance: Episode 5

It’s clear that Momo’s Quirk is exceptionally powerful within the series. However, it has some significant downsides, like causing strain on her body following use. Yet, the potential to produce virtually anything imaginable could be incredibly beneficial for a villain. Typically, Momo opts to manufacture heavy weaponry like railguns and cannons to defend herself, but there’s no limit to what she can make, even if larger items require more time to construct.

This isn’t a major flaw for typical villains because creating small devices like explosives or smoke bombs instantly could make it challenging for heroes to approach their target. Momo might not be one of All For One’s primary targets, but if he manages to acquire her Quirk, it would only increase his already excessive power level.

4. Camie Utsushima

Camie Could Have Become A Dangerous Sorceress-Like Villain With Her Illusion Power

  • First Appearance: Episode 53

After expelling a peculiar vapor from her mouth, Camie will have the ability to essentially give her adversaries a false perception of whatever she desires them to believe. Typically, she’ll opt to produce multiple visual deceits that can serve as diversions, like when she generates an illusion of Todoroki during the Provisional License Exam to draw the attention of the children who were involved in the partial test.

As an observer, I can’t help but ponder about Camie’s potential if she were to choose a path less virtuous. With her ability to create illusions, she could effortlessly cast blame on others for crimes or even manipulate the minds of the heroes, catching them off guard before they even sense trouble brewing. Navigating such a deceptive power in favor of society is no easy feat, but Camie, through rigorous training, has found ingenious ways to apply it constructively.

3. Toru Hagakure

Toru Must Learn How To Use Her Sneaky Abilities In A Way That Contributes To Society

  • First Appearance: Episode 5

In most anime, the power to become invisible is typically given to characters who are cunning and sneaky, but Toru is different. For most of the series, Toru has trouble figuring out how best to use her unique ability. However, eventually she unlocks the full capacity of her power, enabling her to manipulate light itself, which proves particularly useful when confronting a treacherous student who wields light beams as a weapon in later parts of the story.

Although Toru might have chosen to use her abilities for heroism and justice, it’s clear that her power of invisibility could just as well be a trait suitable for a villain. This stealth ability would enable a malicious individual to pilfer or even plan an assassination without the slightest suspicion. In such a scenario, Toru’s presence likely prevented her invisibility from becoming synonymous with infamy among villains.

2. Fumikage Tokoyami

The Aesthetic And Eerie Nature Of Fumikage’s Dark Shadow Seems More Suitable For A Villain

  • First Appearance: Episode 5

From my perspective, Tokoyashi’s power, the Dark Shadow, seems quite straightforward; it grants him command over a colossal, ominous bird-like entity capable of inflicting massive damage upon command. Given its unsettling appearance, particularly when fully energized, this formidable creature might instill fear in civilians rather than optimism. However, undeterred, Tokoyashi has been working diligently to adapt his power for defensive purposes instead.

During the Forest Training Camp episode and the ultimate battle against All For One, it’s clear that Dark Shadow possesses immense destructive power at night, but controlling it can sometimes prove challenging for Tokoyami. If a villain were lucky enough to acquire the Dark Shadow Quirk, they could effortlessly flatten entire cities, instilling terror in the civilian population with ease.

1. Hitoshi Shinso

Being Able To Manipulate Someone’s Mind Seems Ideal For An Evil Mastermind

  • First Appearance: Episode 15

Shinso possesses a unique ability that lets him invade an opponent’s mind and take over their body, making them act against their wishes. For the first time, he showcases this incredibly powerful skill against Midoriya during the Sports Festival. In this fight, Shinso quickly gains the upper hand by forcing Midoriya to leave the battle arena. This encounter highlights the usefulness of his Quirk, but it also underscores the challenges he faces due to its villainous nature, as others have criticized him for having such a desirable power.

To begin with, I’ve noticed that Shinso initially asserted he could manipulate a person’s physical form only after brainwashing them, but not compel them to speak. However, through extensive training with Aizawa, he eventually developed this capacity later on. Despite his Quirk appearing highly perilous at first, it wasn’t until he faced persistent ridicule that Shinso ultimately learned to use it for the pursuit of justice and safeguarding civilians.
