In the anime “My Hero Academia“, a character’s combat strategy, or their fighting style, is predominantly shaped by their unique abilities, or ‘quirks’. Characters like All Might and All-For-One who possess destructive powers can disregard tactical considerations and simply obliterate their opponents. In contrast, characters with unconventional quirks, such as Eraser Head and Stain, must develop innovative fighting styles that maximize the potential of their distinctive abilities.

In another category, we find Lemillion, much like Eraser Head and Stain. They all possess difficult-to-manage abilities that typically hinder hero work. However, unlike his father who seldom employs his challenging trait in daily life, Lemillion persistently pursues his dream of becoming a hero. Through tireless training, he has forged an original method of combat. Now, let’s delve into what sets Lemillion’s fighting style apart.

Quirk: Permeation

Before diving into the specifics of Lemillion’s combat techniques, let’s discuss some fundamental elements that make up his fighting style initially. Three primary aspects shape his approach to battle: his Quirk, his physical prowess, and his strategic foresight. We can begin by examining his Quirk, Permeation.

Phasing Through Everything

By its very nature, Permeation grants Lemillion the ability to pass through any obstacle as if they weren’t there. He can make himself or certain body parts insubstantial and glide effortlessly through anything that lies in his path. During this intangible state, neither attacks nor defenses can reach him. This unique power is particularly handy for covert operations since it makes no difference whether an adversary is hiding underground or within fortified iron walls – Lemillion can casually stroll into their hideout without breaking a sweat.

Alright, buddy, let’s keep this straight – if you mess up with your Quirk, it could literally divide you into pieces. That’s quite a handful to handle, huh? Even Daddy, who is usually unstoppable, found it too tough to balance heroics with that kind of power. But here’s the deal, are you still ready to give it a shot?

A Lot More Troublesome Than You Might Think

It might appear as though Permeation is a convenient trait, but quite the contrary; it demands intense focus from its user, Lemillion. Mastering the precise moment when a specific part of his body becomes intangible requires him to have complete mastery and mindfulness over each and every inch of his body.

In addition, during this “intangible” state, he becomes completely transparent to everything, such as light and air. As a result, when he goes under ground, he won’t be able to see or breathe. By the way, his superhero suit is designed with a unique fiber, modeled after strands of his own hair, to prevent him from phasing through his clothes.

Physical Strength

Permeation doesn’t offer unique physical prowess to its users; rather, it allows Lemillion to move exceptionally well. However, this alone isn’t enough to defeat villains and earn hero status. To achieve that, Lemillion must follow traditional training methods by building more muscle and learning martial arts the old-fashioned way.

Raw Muscle Power

Due to the fact that any weapon or tool simply passes through him, Lemillion’s arsenal is essentially limited to his physical body – specifically, his kicks and punches. Recognizing this early on, building muscle has been an integral part of his daily training routine. However, unlike All Might, he doesn’t bulk up significantly. Instead, his fighting style emphasizes speed and agility, resulting in a lean physique that may not appear drastically different from ordinary people. Yet, with just one well-placed kick or punch, he can effortlessly send opponents tumbling to the ground.

Martial Arts

All the muscle in the world won’t mean anything if he doesn’t know how to throw a punch properly. That’s why alongside muscle building and quirk control, he also has martial arts training as part of his daily regimen. He doesn’t need to be an expert in every martial art under the sun. Boxing for his punches and karate or taekwondo for his kicks should be sufficient. Maybe some grappling or Muay Thai to tie everything together. So yes, Lemillion has mastered the foundation for a Mixed Martial Arts and that is pretty much all he needs to take down any villains.

Foresight

As a trainee under Sir Nighteye, I’ve been fortunate enough to learn from a man who spent years alongside All Might. His unique ability, known as foresight, lets him peer into the future of his target, accurately predicting their actions in the next seconds, minutes, hours, or even years. This makes him practically invincible in combat, while he can effortlessly deliver a decisive blow to defeat his adversary. Unfortunately, I don’t possess Nighteye’s quirk myself, but through rigorous training, he has instilled this incredible foresight within me, preparing me for the challenges ahead.

Taking it All in

In a battle, Lemillion first takes note of everything in his surroundings, aiming to capitalize on them for an advantage. Ideally, he’s informed about his adversary, like during the Shie Hassaikai raid. However, even if he knows nothing, Lemillion has been trained to scrutinize his opponents’ abilities, actions, and character traits. This allows him to anticipate their future moves as precisely as possible. By gathering this information, he significantly boosts his chances of emerging victorious in the fight.

Predicting Everything

When Lemillion employs his Permeation ability to sink into the earth, he’ll be pushed back since two distinct masses can’t reside at the same location simultaneously. However, Lemillion exploits this property to thrust himself in any desired direction, thereby moving more swiftly than his adversaries can respond.

Regardless of how swiftly he advances, if his adversaries spot him approaching, they can respond with a counterattack or an escape tactic. This is where forecasting their actions becomes crucial. By guessing where the enemy will be or what they will do in the near future, Lemillion can surprise his opponents and deliver a decisive blow. He possesses strength, martial arts skills, and a unique ability (quirk), but it’s his ability to predict that raises his combat style to a higher level.

I keep a close eye on my rival and attempt to anticipate their moves. However, your agility surpasses that of a common Yakuza member. You’re indeed formidable, Chisaki! Nevertheless, in terms of strength, I still hold the upper hand!

Lemillion in a Fight

My Hero Academia: Lemillion's Unique Fighting Style, Explained

With all our essential elements now set – the quirk, strength, martial arts, and strategic thinking – let’s observe how Lemillion skillfully employs these assets in combat. To truly appreciate his distinctive fighting style, let’s revisit the time when he battled Kai Chisaki, also known as Overhaul, and his minions during the Shie Hassaikai arc.

Moving Before the Enemy

This fight happens in the long corridor underneath Shie Hassaikai’s HQ. Chisaki intends to escape from the secret passage with Eri and some of his underlings. The moment Overhaul and his goons realize that Lemillion has caught up to them, they immediately try to attack him head-on. But before they can move, Lemillion has already dived into the ground, propelled himself towards Overhaul, and appears right behind the masked villain. All of these maneuvers happen in fractions of a second. Before Overhaul can react, Lemillion has already landed a clean punch that knocks this Yakuza down.

Catapult by the Ground

Diving into the ground and nearby walls and then using the repelling effect to be catapulted toward his chosen direction is Lemillion’s signature move. Not only it is effective as a surprise attack, but it is also Lemillion’s fastest move. In fact, one of his ultimate moves is called Phantom Menace. When he executes this move, Lemillion bounces around at high speed from the nearby walls, floor, and ceiling, and then takes out multiple enemies simultaneously. Lemillion uses Phantom Menace to knock down several of Overhaul’s minions before they get a chance to react. This move works especially well indoors.

Multi-Stage Phasing

Following rigorous and lengthy training exercises, Lemillion has ultimately mastered his unruly quirk. Now, he can selectively activate Permeation on specific body parts and switch it on or off at will. This sequential phasing function essentially bypasses the opponent’s defenses. An illustrative instance of this is evident during Lemillion’s decisive battle against Overhaul.

The devastating force of Overhaul lies in his palms. When he senses Lemillion preparing to strike him, he reflexively opens his hand, using it both to halt the attack and to obliterate Lemillion’s fist. However, Lemillion cleverly passes through Overhaul’s hand, then solidifies only his fist while keeping the rest of his arm intangible. This allowed him to deliver a powerful punch directly to Overhaul’s face without any interference from Overhaul’s destructive powers.

In summary, when Lemillion invades the enemy’s stronghold and encounters multiple adversaries, he performs a swift dive forward towards the most distant one. Then, he propels himself upwards behind that enemy’s back, delivering a knockout blow. Subsequently, he dives again, rebounding from the ground to the walls at great speed, eliminating the remaining opponents in the process.

Should anyone attempt to attack him or obstruct his attacks, he’ll employ his nimble phase-shifting ability to bypass their defense and deliver a powerful punch or kick straight to their face. In extended combat, he assesses his opponent during the fight itself to anticipate their moves and adapt his tactics accordingly. This is the core of Lemillion’s distinctive fighting style.
