As a seasoned gamer and avid fan of My Hero Academia, I find Rokuro Nomura, or Number 6, to be one of the most intriguing characters in the Vigilantes spin-off series. His complex background and tragic end make for an emotionally engaging narrative that leaves me pondering long after the credits roll.

In the series “My Hero Academia: Vigilantes,” the character Rokuro Nomura is intricately developed. Suffering from a unique mental condition known as agnosia, Rokuro serves as an ideal subject for All For One’s manipulations in numerous aspects. With All For One’s guidance, Rokuro transforms into the person he desires to be.

Regrettably, Rokuro’s unstable mindset and yearning for personal value would cause him to adopt multiple personas. However, one may wonder about the enigmatic individual named Rokuro and his eventual destiny.

My Hero Academia: Who is Rokuro Nomura?

In the series “My Hero Academia: Vigilantes,” the primary villain is Rokuro Nomura, more famously known as Number 6. This character debuts in Chapter 26 of the manga, following Hachisuka Kuin’s defeat. Interestingly, he collects one of her bees. It appears that during the time when other villains were present at the Villain Factory, Rokuro might have taken on an unofficial leadership role, directing the actions of the other members.

After devising a system for manufacturing villains on a large scale, All For One established The Villain Workshop, aiming to gather information from powerful Quirk bearers. It was Rokuro who carried out most of the tasks for this establishment, as he would retrieve samples (from defeated villains) following their chaotic rampages, which were then subdued by the Hero Association.

In Chapter 111, we discover that Nomura Rokuro is actually Number 6, a test subject of Dr. Garaki and All For One who was given the designation Number 6. However, due to a unique condition called agnosia, he is unable to recognize himself or others, leaving him unaware of his own identity.

Six, in essence, was viewed as a versatile piece or moldable substance that All For One could shape at will. All For One perceived Six as an open-ended project, offering him the chance to explore and determine Six’s ultimate purpose. By giving Six freedom to select any Quirk he desired, All For One allowed his development to unfold organically.

Following the chance to adopt numerous Pro Heroes such as Lady Nagant, Endeavor, Gang Orca, or Lady O’Clock, Number 6 opted for the Supersonic Hero Quirk. However, All For One seized this power from Oguro Iwao and left him with a scarred face during the process. Due to his lack of personal identity, Number 6, who has been altered by Dr Garaki, now possesses the ability to transform into any individual he desires. The visage that Number 6 currently bears, Nomura Rokuro, closely resembles Koichi Haimawari, the lead character from My Hero Academia: Vigilantes.

In the comic book series, Character Number 6 assumes diverse personas and identities. Yet, whenever he reveals his malevolent side, he transforms into a figure with a darkened face and a scar, much like Oguro. Interestingly, when interacting with others, he adjusts his demeanor to blend in, such as when he disguised himself as a Manager to control Pop Step.

As a devoted follower, I can’t help but reflect on my part in the intriguing tale of the Villain Factory. When Kuin Hachisuka and the Dealer found themselves unable to dispense the potent Trigger substance, it was I who eventually provided Hina with an alternative form of this drug. Yet, this version lacked the intensity compared to its injectable counterpart. Despite Number 6 being deeply immersed in the Villain Factory’s operations, he harbored his own ambition – a desire to ascend and take O’Clock’s place.

Over the course of the show, Number 6 has grappled with his identity. Once he encountered several Superheroes and their unique abilities, Number 6 developed an intense fascination towards the Superspeed Hero: O’Clock. Desiring to establish a personal identity and feel significant, Number 6 concocted a scheme to transform into the Pro Hero O’Clock.

Following the acquisition of Overclock from All For One, Character 6 persisted in honing his skills to outdo O’Clock and push beyond his own boundaries. His ambition being to emulate O’Clock, Character 6 also procured a Pro Hero license and operated under the pseudonym Rock. Given his capacity for metamorphosis, blending with the current Pro Heroes proved straightforward for Character 6.

As a gamer, I’ve always yearned for a chance to make a significant impact, and my agnosia has only fueled this desire. When I stumbled upon the role of Pro Hero O’Clock, I saw an opportunity. Not just because it was popular or came with a powerful Quirk, but because it seemed like a path towards becoming someone truly meaningful. Little did I know that All For One would take notice. Intrigued by my determination, he decided to guide me, masking himself as the Pro Hero O’Clock. This mentorship, while initially unexpected, has become a driving force in my journey towards self-realization.

During the Naruhata Lockdown arc, Number 6’s advancement under All For One’s guidance unfortunately resulted in Number 6 experiencing increased mental instability. Throughout this arc, Number 6 aimed to eliminate Pop Step and Koichi due to their interference with his schemes. However, a combination of prominent heroes, the police force, and vigilantes effectively thwarted his attempts.

In Chapter 121, as the fight nears its end, Number 6’s hidden emotions start to emerge. For Number 6, becoming the Hero O’Clock was a means to connect with people more deeply and find his identity. Growing up, he often felt isolated, so he longed for a Pro Heroes power to be desired by others.

All I want is meaning. Proof that I existed, y’know?

As the struggle nears its climax and people start celebrating Koichi’s victory, Number 6’s mental state deteriorates further. Regrettably, the excessive use of his powers, his psychological instability, and his inability to develop a sense of identity pushed him to take his own life in a heart-wrenching act right before Koichi. Despite seeing himself as worthless, Number 6’s experiences ultimately resulted in the creation of the bioengineered Nomu character.

My Hero Academia is now available to stream on Crunchyroll.
