As a gamer with countless hours spent immersed in the vibrant world of My Hero Academia, I can confidently say that Hitoshi Shinso is one character who truly embodies resilience and determination. His Quirk may be seen as villainous by some, but it’s his unwavering spirit to become a Pro Hero that sets him apart.
In the world of “My Hero Academia”, your unique ability, or Quirk, might classify you as a villain or even bestow upon you characteristics that lean towards villainy. If a person fails to use their Quirk wisely, it could potentially sway them towards malevolent actions.
Throughout his lifetime, Hitoshi Shinso tirelessly defended himself against malicious accusations, all while yearning for the day when he could become a Pro Hero. Despite being subjected to an unjust practical examination, Shinso resolved to demonstrate his skills and determination. Progressing with his unique Quirk, the question remains: Will Shinso manage to transition into the Heroics Department?
Who is Hitoshi Shinso?
With a Brainwashing Quirk, many see him as a villain
Hitoshi Shinso is a pupil at UA High School, focusing on the General Education department. Every year, there are two Heroic Departments, along with several other departments classified as Class A and B. Therefore, Hitoshi Shinso belongs to Class 1-C, but this changes when he graduates, eventually transitioning to either Class 2-A or Class 2-B in subsequent years until his third year.
To enroll in UA High School’s Heroic Department, all aspiring students need to participate in a hands-on proficiency test that assesses their abilities. During this test, students will engage in combat against mechanical antagonists, earning points as they do so. Furthermore, they can also accrue rescue points by saving fellow students from these adversaries.
To clarify, the test evaluates the hands-on skills and talents of prospective students. Individuals with robust abilities such as Bakugo Katsuki’s Explosion Quirk receive higher scores. However, those with less potent Quirks may not fare as well. In this scenario, Hitoshi Shinso possesses a Brainwashing Quirk. This particular Quirk proved ineffective against robotic adversaries during the practical test. If Hitoshi had been pitted against a human opponent instead, he likely would have emerged victorious.
I, Shinso, made my debut at the Sports Festival’s opening, making it clear that I was joining the Heroic Department. My Quirk is often seen as “villainous” by others, but I’ve always harbored dreams of becoming a Pro Hero and proving them wrong.
Is Shinsos Quirk efficient for the Hero Department?
Shinso lacks the power needed to battle villains, but can he make up for it?
Unfortunately, Shinso needs to put effort into enhancing his Quirk and himself due to his lack of strength. During the Sports Festival, Shinso drew attention from UA’s teachers, particularly Aizawa Shota. Aizawa, who possesses a similar type of Quirk called Erasure Quirk, was able to see Shinso’s potential. This is because Aizawa’s Quirk doesn’t have much power on its own but can neutralize other people’s Quirks, making him invaluable in combat situations.
After Aizawa recognized Shinso’s hidden talent, he decided to mentor him one-on-one using the Binding Cloth to offset his inexperience in combat. Once Aizawa believed Shinso was ready, he suggested a test to assess Shinso’s battle skills during the Joint Training arc. This test is well-known among both Heroic Department Classes A and B, which means Shinso’s Quirk abilities are already public knowledge, putting him at a disadvantage.
As a fervent admirer, I’d like to rephrase: When I employ Shinso’s Brainwashing Quirk, it only triggers if the person I use it on responds. Once activated, they slip into a state resembling unconsciousness, compelled to follow my orders. Interestingly, during the Joint Training arc, Shinso introduced a new aid that enables him to mimic the voice of his opponents by altering his vocal cords.
During the arc, this significantly boosts him, resulting in one defeat and one victory against advanced Classes A and B. Despite Shinso’s Quirk not being designed for combat, he can prove to be a tough opponent for villains when utilized effectively. Following the Joint Training arc, Shinso discovered his deficiencies in combat and learned how to optimally utilize his Quirk. Although he endured a loss, his perseverance and skill led to advantageous outcomes, as Aizawa acknowledged.
In the Final Conflict, Shinso enhanced his Mind Control Quirk once more. Earlier, he couldn’t issue commands with this Brainwashing Ability. But during the course of the conflict, Shinso refined his power, enabling him to make others speak at will. It was in a covert operation within the Final War storyline that Shinso showcased his skills effectively, as they successfully deceived All For One, providing an edge for the Heroes in the imminent battle.
Will Shinso transfer to the Hero Department?
With hard work and determination, dreams can come true
Hitoshi Shinso has done everything he can to prove that he is worthy of entering the UA High School’s Heroics Department. During the Final War, Shinso played a crucial role in fooling All For One, which allowed the Heroes to put their plans into place. During the battle with Gigantomachia, Shinso controlled him by using All For One’s voice.
In the heat of battle, Gigantomachia was a formidable adversary, leaving even the Pro Heroes bewildered by his immense size and power. Yet, thanks to Shinso’s intervention, Gigantomachia was brought under control, shifting the battle’s momentum in favor of the Heroes. However, despite Shinso managing to command Machia, a sense of betrayal had been brewing within him towards All For One, leading to Machia rebelling against his master.
Following the Great War, it became evident that Shinso had all the necessary qualities to become a professional hero. His actions during the war and his unwavering resolve demonstrated this. In the 425th chapter, we learned that Shinso would be relocated to the Heroes Division. Given his past admission of being a UA traitor, Aoyama Yuga has decided to part ways with UA High School. Despite being forgiven for his misdeeds, Aoyama desires to depart in order to make amends. To compensate for Aoyama’s departure, Class 2-A will welcome a new student named Hitoshi Shinso. In the final chapter of My Hero Academia (Chapter 430), we find Shinso standing alongside Class A as a professional hero.
My Hero Academia is now available to stream on Crunchyroll.
