Summary
- Mt. Lady’s Gigantification Quirk makes her a powerhouse in close combat.
- Mirio’s Permeation ability allows him to phase through attacks and launch surprise strikes.
- Endeavor’s Hellflame brings devastating close-range attacks, showcasing his power.
In the realm of My Hero Academia, it’s often seen that heroes favor a close-quarters approach, whether it’s a powerful punch or a well-aimed kick, over relying on long-range Quirks. It’s not hard to understand why, as this show is brimming with Quirk abilities that amplify physical prowess in various ways. These can range from enhancing a person’s strength by expanding their body, to boosting their fighting capabilities with an energy surge.
Without a doubt, any character who gains these particular Quirks will be capable of inflicting significant damage at close range. However, when we evaluate them based on their power and overall dependability, how do they compare? These are the most impressive close-range Quirks that have been featured in the storyline of My Hero Academia.
caution: The following list may include spoilers for the entirety of season 7 in the anime “My Hero Academia”. Proceed with caution if you wish to avoid any spoilers.
8. Gigantification
Mt. Lady Was Able To Pull Off Some Incredible Feats Thanks To Her Size And Strength
- User: Mt. Lady
Inherently capable of swelling into an immense figure, Mount Lady possesses the strength to crush a band of villains if they fail to outrun her attacks swiftly. She has the ability to control her size growth, and when fully expanded, she exhibits enough power to withstand even the most formidable of foes.
In this scenario, Mount Lady stood alone as the only hero capable of confronting the destructive Gigantomachia, buying time for the others to strategize before his arrival caused further havoc. Truly formidable, she showcases an impressive level of resilience and agility in close combat, earning her the title of a top-tier Pro-Hero.
7. Permeation
Being Able To Land A Hit On Mirio Is Easier Said Than Done Thanks To His Permeation Quirk
- User: Mirio Togata
Using Permeation, Mirio gains the ability to pass right through solid objects. Once activated, any physical attacks will simply pass through him, leaving him seemingly invulnerable and making it difficult for opponents to land a hit on him. Mastering this skill requires dedication, but with hard work, Mirio has made it possible to use effectively.
Mirio boasts a unique skillset: he can swiftly position himself to execute a sneak attack on opponents once his ability is triggered and he passes through the floor. Moreover, his agility allows him to dodge enemy attacks when they come dangerously close. However, this power comes with significant limitations; Mirio must maintain his breath continuously while using it, but its strength cannot be denied.
6. Fa Jin
A Lot Of Preparation For A Giant Burst Of Damage
- Users: Bruce Lee / Midoriya
One method of rephrasing that’s natural and easy to understand: Midoriya’s Quirk, inherited from Bruce Lee who was once a bearer of One For All, operates by building energy in a specific body part through continuous physical movements. Once the optimal moment is identified, the stored power is unleashed forcefully in a single, powerful release.
As a die-hard fan, I couldn’t help but be thrilled as I watched Midoriya unleash his first ever combination of Fa Jin and other Quirks against Lady Nagant. In an instant, she was knocked out cold by the sheer power of his 100% Faux attack. Though it may not get much focus on screen, it’s evident that the lightning-fast speed of Fa Jin significantly amplifies the strength of Midoriya’s attacks when he deems it necessary in critical moments.
5. All For One
Once All For One Takes Hold Of His Opponent, He Can Sap Them Of Their Abilities
- User: All For One
From my perspective, understating All For One as merely overpowered would be quite an understatement. This extraordinary Quirk, wielded by the cunning mastermind himself, enables him to seize another’s Quirk upon physical contact. A clear demonstration of this power unfolded during the climactic war, when Hawks lost his Fierce Wings in a matter of seconds. The victim is left utterly vulnerable and defenceless post-theft, making All For One’s Quirk an imposing force indeed.
To put it simply, All For One possesses such immense power that the villain bearing the same name successfully pilfered an entire cache of other abilities, leaving no one with the means to counter his formidable skill. While All For One may not be overly technical or showy, in a confrontation, its might is more than capable of securing victory.
4. Explosion
Anyone Who Dares Stand up To Bakugo Better Be Prepared To Get Blown Away
- User: Bakugo
In a simplified and engaging manner: Bakugo has an extraordinary skill – turning his sweat into powerful explosions. This makes him one of the top-tier heroes when it comes to dealing with hordes of villains, thanks to his wide-area, high-damage attacks. While his ability might seem basic, it offers a lot of versatility in combat. Interestingly, Bakugo isn’t too concerned about his battle aesthetics; instead, he often charges headlong into the fray, facing his enemies with a confrontational stance, and detonating the explosions right from his palm.
Over the course of the series, Bakugo discovers ways to utilize his Explosions not just for attack but also for enhanced mobility. This enables him to swiftly bridge distances between himself and a villain more effectively. Furthermore, while his Quirk Awakening is remarkably powerful, it comes at a significant physical cost in the short run for Bakugo.
3. Hellflame
Endeavor Has No Quarrels About Getting Up Close And Personal If He Needs To
- User: Endeavor
Endeavor demonstrates several distinctive applications of Hellflame. From a secure vantage point, he’s capable of unleashing immense fire blasts. However, his intense desire to witness villains suffer often leads him to approach enemies more closely. This proximity allows his fiery physique to singe opponents before delivering the decisive strike.
In some cases, less resilient foes may be defeated with mere powerful punches, but tenacious adversaries might call for Endeavor to unleash his ultimate move – Prominence Burn. This destructive blast, when used at close range, can reduce enemies to fragments. Such power underscores Endeavor’s status as the top hero of Japan following All Might’s retirement.
2. Decay
With A Single Touch, Shigaraki Can Erase His Enemies From Existence
- User: Tomura Shigaraki
In the series, Decay is one of the most lethal powers, and despite its apparent simplicity in operation, it’s extremely challenging to combat effectively. When Shigaraki touches a living being, they gradually deteriorate with no means to resist. This makes him a formidable villain who can effortlessly eliminate anyone who crosses him, barely needing to exert any force.
In the show, Shigaraki has defeated numerous formidable adversaries, with perhaps the most remarkable being Star and Stripe, America’s top hero. This battle, one of the most thrilling in the series, ultimately ended with All For One’s disciple overpowering Star and Stripe. Anyone who dares approach Shigaraki should be fully cognizant of his immense danger.
1. One For All
Midoriya And All Might Can Blast Away An Opponent With A Single Punch
- Users: Vestiges / All Might / Midoriya
Mastering One For All is an extremely challenging Quirk, but those who can grasp its intricacies and harness its hidden power can unleash extraordinary attacks. In his prime, All Might was defeating villains almost constantly, and for many years he was virtually invincible due to One For All. In the main narrative, even though he was nearing the end of his career, All Might’s strength was still formidable enough to bypass Nomu’s regenerative abilities merely by delivering powerful punches.
In simpler terms, we can say that on numerous occasions, Midoriya showcased the immense strength of One For All, and one instance that stands out is when he surpassed 100% to destroy the dangerous villain Muscular following his defense reinforcement. It’s important to note that anyone who inherits One For All gains superhuman abilities; however, as the saying goes, with great power comes great responsibility – a lesson Midoriya learns throughout the story.
