‘My Mario’ Marketing Did Not Use AI Images, Nintendo Says

Nintendo has stated that the promotional images for their new “My Mario” toys were not created using artificial intelligence.

Nintendo revealed on January 8, 2025, that its My Mario toys will be available in the US starting February 19th. They promoted the new products online with images showing families playing together. However, some viewers questioned whether the company used artificial intelligence to create the marketing images, pointing out inconsistencies in how hands appeared in the photos.

Generative AI is increasingly being discussed in the gaming world as these tools become easier to use and more widely available. Recently, the game Clair Obscur: Expedition 33 lost its awards from The Indie Game Awards because it used generative AI. Additionally, Larian Studios, known for the Divinity series, announced they won’t be using generative AI for creating concept art or writing dialogue.
