One popular approach is to track each character’s wins and losses, essentially treating the battles like a competition to gauge their strength and progress. Although the characters in Team 7 don’t see ninja fights as a sport, viewers are free to enjoy them that way.

When you look at the overall picture, the results aren’t too shocking. Characters who aren’t main players, like Tenten, Hinata, and Kiba, rarely win fights – they usually lose badly or need to be saved. Some characters, such as Shikamaru and Rock Lee, have a more balanced record, but a select few from the Naruto series consistently come out on top. I remember when Jiraiya confronted him and Kisame – they retreated, but it didn’t really feel like a full defeat, more like a strategic withdrawal. It seems like Itachi usually either wins a fight decisively, or he ends it when he wants to, which means he doesn’t rack up many losses.

Itachi was responsible for the deaths of many members of his own clan, including his parents, Fugaku and Mikoto, both highly skilled ninjas. He first gained notoriety by effortlessly defeating Kurenai Yuhi and Kakashi Hatake using only genjutsu, showcasing his mastery of illusionary techniques. He easily overpowered his brother, Sasuke, in an early encounter, but later allowed Sasuke to defeat him during a final battle years later.

It’s no surprise that Obito Uchiha is a strong fighter, as members of the Uchiha clan, known for their Sharingan and often protected by the story, usually win or survive their battles. Obito is no exception, with very few defeats. While he was almost killed as a young ninja when a boulder fell on him, his chances of winning greatly improved after he teamed up with Madara.

Obito became incredibly powerful, adopting aliases like Tobi and Madara, and consistently won battles while hiding behind masks. He effortlessly defeated opponents, including two skilled Root ninjas, Foo and Torune, and wasn’t even fazed by a chakra beetle attack. A key to his success was his ability, Kami, which allowed him to teleport parts of his body, making him seem untouchable. Ultimately, Obito was defeated and died while helping Team 7 defeat the true enemies.

Pain’s impact during the Pain Arc was significant, giving him a remarkably high win rate. Even though Nagato later revived most of those he defeated, those victories still stand. Pain uniquely managed to kill important characters like Kakashi Hatake on his own, something many villains in Naruto couldn’t achieve. He also defeated and killed Jiraiya in their battle at the Hidden Rain Village.

It was devastating to watch the Six Paths of Pain completely overwhelm the Hidden Leaf Village. So many defenders fell, and only a handful survived, including Tsunade and Sakura. If you want the full picture, Pain even managed to capture and defeat Naruto during their fight. He announced that he’d captured the Nine-Tails, and Naruto actually needed Hinata’s help to break free from that situation.

However, for the most part, Sasuke was successful, either winning impressively against strong opponents or managing to escape from even more powerful ones. Though Itachi essentially let Sasuke win their final fight, Sasuke still officially won that duel.

Watching Sasuke throughout the series, I was always struck by how consistently he improved. Even before Shippuden, he was already strong enough to beat opponents like the Sound Genin, Yoroi Akado, and even managed to defeat Naruto himself. But it was after the time skip that his power really exploded – he took down formidable foes like Deidara, Itachi, and even, in a way, Killer B, along with Danzo Shimura and Orochimaru. What really stood out, though, was his fights with Naruto. Naruto is the classic shonen hero, always getting stronger, so the fact that Sasuke could often match him, or even slightly edge him out, was seriously impressive. It showed just how much talent and drive Sasuke had.

In anime like Naruto, the main character usually becomes a very skilled fighter, and Naruto is no exception. While he occasionally lost or needed help, Naruto generally proved himself in battle. He had a few shaky starts, like when he froze during an attack by Mist ninja, but quickly improved. He defeated Zabuza with a clever strategy and surprisingly beat Kiba Inuzuka. Naruto also fought Gaara to a standstill and ultimately won a personal victory through his ability to connect with others.

Similar to his longtime rival Sasuke, Naruto achieved many more impressive wins in the Shippuden series. His powerful techniques and seemingly unbreakable luck made him incredibly difficult to defeat. While he struggled against the fake Itachi, Naruto succeeded where others failed by defeating Pain, and he easily overpowered Kakuzu with his Rasenshuriken. He also triumphed over Obito Uchiha during the final war and was crucial in defeating Kaguya Otsutsuki.

Madara Uchiha is arguably the most successful fighter in the ninja world. While he was surprisingly defeated by Black Zetsu, who sided with Kaguya, his record is otherwise spotless. Throughout history, Madara consistently triumphed over members of the Senju clan, and even after seemingly dying, he returned to win more battles. Though his major victories came later in the series, Madara’s impact on the anime is unforgettable.

Madara consistently demonstrated incredible strength, single-handedly fighting off an entire alliance of ninjas and defeating countless opponents with ease. This makes his win record the best in the Naruto anime. He even managed to defeat all five Kage – a truly remarkable feat – and never lost a direct battle against Naruto Uzumaki. While his eventual defeat at the hands of Naruto might seem disappointing, it’s understandable considering Naruto’s protected status and the interference of Black Zetsu. Notably, even with all of Naruto’s power, he was unable to defeat Madara either.
