Naruto represents one of the most captivating shonen anime series, which gained massive popularity throughout its impressive duration. Following the titular ninja as he evolves from a social outcast to the Hokage is an inspiring odyssey brimming with unforgettable moments.
Nevertheless, Naruto doesn’t hesitate to leave fans devastated with some shocking deaths, which makes it even sweeter when despicable villains finally receive their comeuppance for their cruel actions. Occasionally, these deaths can seem perplexing, given that they could potentially have been averted in one way or another.
8. Jiraiya
A Bit Of Backup Could’ve Helped Him Out A Lot During His Mission

- Death Episode: The Tale of Jiraiya the Gallant (Episode 133 of Naruto: Shippuden)
One of the most touching scenes in Naruto is when Jiraiya meets his end. The Pervy Sage, filled with remorse for past mistakes, attempts to make amends. But despite this, he decides to confront Pain alone, leading to his demise. Tragically, he succumbs to a violent death at the hands of his formidable opponent.
Despite the significance of this instance for Naruto’s development, viewers find themselves pondering over Jiraiya’s readiness to face danger without support. It seems unusual that teams are tasked with even the most basic missions within Leaf Village, which makes it challenging to comprehend Jiraiya’s actions during his reconnaissance mission. Having backup would have undoubtedly been beneficial in this situation.
7. Danzo Shimura
Even With Multiple Uses Of The Overpowered Izanagi, He Failed To Win Against Sasuke

- Death Episode: Danzo Shimura (Episode 211 of Naruto: Shippuden)
I can’t help but marvel at the incredible power that Danzo speaks of, a testament to the prowess of the Uchiha clan’s genjutsu – Izanagi. This technique allows its wielder to rewrite their own death, albeit at the cost of their eyesight. Quite an extraordinary trade-off, wouldn’t you agree?
Given his past trials and tribulations, Danzo had ample opportunity to study Sasuke’s vulnerabilities and eliminate him permanently. However, he squandered all the resources he’d carefully accumulated, using the hostage situation with Konan as a deceitful tactic. Regrettably for Danzo, this desperate move backfired spectacularly when Sasuke demonstrated his ruthlessness, rendering Danzo’s power and influence insignificant in the end.
6. Haku
A Tragic Sacrifice That Made Zabuza Finally See The Light

- Death Episode: The Weapons Known as Shinobi (Episode 18 of Naruto)
Haku and Zabuza are two standout antagonists in the world of Naruto, each bringing a sense of gravity and tension to the storyline. The enigmatic Haku was once an abandoned orphan who found loyalty in the traveling swordsman Zabuza, forming a bond that adds depth to their characters.
Standing before Kakashi’s Raikiri, this swordsman knowingly accepts a lethal strike, causing Zabuza to fully grasp Haku’s significance in his life. Had he valued Haku earlier, perhaps this ninja would still be alive. It’s perplexing that despite Kakashi having unintentionally claimed another life with Raikiri before, he didn’t seem to comprehend that an innocent was now standing in the path of this deadly attack.
5. Neji Hyuga
It’s Hard To Believe That An Accomplished Bakugan User Couldn’t Deflect The Ten-Tails’ Wood Projectile

- Death Episode: The Ties That Bind (Episode 364 of Naruto: Shippuden)
After Naruto exhausts his chakra and the Byakugan users are unable to rewind events in time before a barrage of projectiles is launched by the Ten-Tails, Neji takes the selfless action of becoming a protective barrier. Although the reason for his death is clarified, many viewers can’t help but feel that this scene seems overly contrived.
Up until Shippuden, Neji hadn’t accomplished anything particularly significant, which made his death even more disheartening. Considering his exceptional abilities, it seems inconceivable that a talented member of the Hyuga clan like him couldn’t have utilized his powers to dodge the projectile or simply shield both Naruto and Hinata from harm instead.
4. Nagato
Things Could’ve Been Different Had He Not Changed After A Traumatic Death

- Death Episode: Hero of the Hidden Leaf (Episode 175 of Naruto: Shippuden)
In several aspects, Nagato can be seen as a darker counterpart of Naruto, choosing to yield to his own shadows rather than championing justice. The loss of Yahiko drove him to establish the Akatsuki and pursue the Tailed Beasts’ guardians.
Reflecting on Naruto’s passionate speech, it’s intriguing to ponder how events might have unfolded differently if this exceptional Rinnegan user had embraced a better path earlier in life. The Leaf Village could have avoided the devastation caused by his destructive actions, and he wouldn’t have felt compelled to make such self-sacrifices to atone for his past mistakes.
3. Obito Uchiha
A Misunderstanding Caused Him To Travel Down A Dark Path

- Death Episode: You Better… (Episode 472 of Naruto: Shippuden)
Obito is an exceptional antagonist, but his reasons for being one are not particularly admirable. Despite learning that Rin’s death was a mistake, he became so fixated on his childhood crush that he chose to start a war in order to live in a fake world.
In a turn of events, Naruto manages to dissuade Obito from an appalling scheme, yet Obito remains oblivious to the fact that a traitor had been lurking among them all along. Eventually, the Black Zetsu seizes control over Obito’s body, utilizing him as a means to resurrect Madara Uchiha at the expense of Obito’s life. Fortunately, Obito manages to hang on long enough to bid adieu to his comrade and bestow upon Kakashi the Sharingan eye necessary for summoning his own Susanoo.
2. Deidara
Would’ve Survived If He Wasn’t Obsessed With Defeating Sasuke

- Death Episode: Art (Episode 124 of Naruto: Shippuden)
Among the intriguing characters within the Akatsuki group, Deidara stands out due to his bold demeanor, which tends to land him in predicaments frequently. Yet, this shouldn’t detract from the colossal power he demonstrates through his explosive chakra bombs.
As Deidara confronted Sasuke, the Sharingan’s penetrating stare and its power filled him with loathing, fueling his anger. Instead of focusing on self-preservation, he made a desperate choice: to explode in an attempt to eliminate Sasuke once and for all. Regrettably, his strategy did not succeed.
1. Sasori
Chose To Die In His Parents’ Embrace

- Death Episode: Impossible Dream (Episode 27 of Naruto: Shippuden)
In the Naruto series, the showdown against Sasori stands as the most challenging ordeal for Sakura, fighting alongside Lady Chiyo to defeat the Akatsuki’s master of puppets. This intense fight highlighted Sakura’s prowess, but the climax of this battle unveils that her triumph was not entirely deserved.
Instead, it is disclosed that Sasori intentionally allowed himself to be impaled by the puppets of his mother and father, savoring their last embrace before his demise. This heartfelt scene catches everyone off guard, as Sasori meets a fate that could have been prevented in one of the most surprising instances of self-sacrifice throughout the series.
