This article contains spoilers from the Naruto series.
Naruto is easily one of the most famous anime series of all time. This story about ninjas became popular around the world years ago and remains incredibly popular. It’s also one of the best-selling manga series ever, with over 250 million copies sold worldwide – 153 million of those in Japan. That’s a huge number, but recently, a new series called Demon Slayer has surpassed its sales numbers in Japan. Thanks to the success of the Infinity Castle arc, many fans expect Demon Slayer to eventually outsell Naruto internationally as well.
Naruto Manga Sales Have Been Beaten By Demon Slayer

- Naruto Has More Sales Overall
- Demon Slayer Has Done Better in the Domestic Market
Whenever people talk about Weekly Shonen Jump or popular action manga, *Naruto* is always one of the first series that comes to mind. It was a huge part of Shonen Jump when it was being published, and even now, years after it finished, people are still discussing it. Very few series have achieved the same level of popularity and success as *Naruto*, making it one of the best-selling manga of all time, without a doubt.
Naruto is one of the best-selling manga series worldwide, ranking 6th overall with over 250 million copies sold. Within Japan’s Weekly Shonen Jump, it’s the 5th best-selling, boasting around 153 million copies. While these numbers are remarkable, a newer series has recently surpassed Naruto in popularity within Japan, which surprised many fans.

With only 23 volumes, *Demon Slayer* has become a phenomenal success in Japan, exceeding the sales of *Naruto* and reaching 164 million copies sold. It’s currently second only to *One Piece* in popularity. What’s particularly impressive is that *Demon Slayer* accomplished this with significantly fewer volumes – about a third of what *Naruto* had.
Will Demon Slayer Surpass Naruto’s Overall Sales?

- Demon Slayer Isn’t Too Far Behind
- There Are Still Two Big Movies That Will Boost Its Sales
While *Demon Slayer* is now more popular than *Naruto* in the United States, it hasn’t yet surpassed *Naruto*’s global popularity. But it’s quickly gaining ground and getting closer to doing so.
Naruto has approximately 250 million copies in print globally, while Demon Slayer has around 220 million. Although there’s a 30 million difference, Demon Slayer’s incredibly successful films could close that gap. By the end of the 2020s, it will become clear whether Demon Slayer has surpassed Naruto in worldwide popularity.

The latest story arc, *Demon Slayer: Infinity Castle*, is available now. If you can’t wait for the animated version, you can read it in the manga on Manga Plus. The anime currently has four seasons, all of which are streaming on Crunchyroll. The rest of the story will be released as movies, and fans will need to see them in theaters when they become available in their region.
