Naruto: How The Sharingan Lost Its Value In Boruto

This article contains spoilers from the Naruto series.

Summary

  • Sasuke’s Sharingan powers are underutilized in Boruto, he mostly uses it for reading movements and Chidori.
  • Sarada Uchiha barely taps into the potential of her Sharingan, only using it for Chidori, and Mangekyo Sharingan is neglected.
  • The Uchiha clan’s powerful Sharingan abilities in Naruto are diminished in Boruto, causing disappointment among fans.

In the Naruto saga, the Sharingan – a unique ability belonging to the Uchiha clan – stands out as one of the most powerful abilities created by Kishimoto. Often referred to as one of the Three Great Dojutsu, the Sharingan plays a significant role in the storyline, but in contrast, its significance has diminished significantly in the Boruto series, even though it is present among two main characters.

Indeed, many fans have been anticipating a significant role for the Uchiha’s Sharingan in the narrative, but as we progress, it seems that at this moment, its importance is overshadowed by the other powers present within the story. However, it’s essential to note that this doesn’t necessarily mean it will remain irrelevant in the long run. Here’s to hoping for a shift in its significance in the future.

The Lack Of Sharingan Powers Being Used

  • Sasuke’s Very Own Sharingan Is Nerfed
  • Sarada Doesn’t Utilize The Sharingan Properly

As a devoted fan, I can’t help but marvel at the extraordinary prowess of Sasuke Uchiha’s Sharingan! This remarkable Dojutsu is renowned for its immense strength, allowing its user to perceive beyond Ninjutsu, Genjutsu, and even Taijutsu. The Sharingan possesses an astounding capacity to mimic every move of the adversary, as well as all their Jutsu, unless they’re Kekkei Genkai or Hiden abilities. Moreover, this incredible eye can cast potent Genjutsu and even detect the fundamental structure of a person’s chakra system within their body.

How much can you see with that Sharingan of yours? — Itachi Uchiha

Absolutely! In the narrative we follow, it’s undeniable that the Sharingan possesses remarkable powers and potential uses. Yet, Boruto seems to shun these abilities. As for Sarada Uchiha, the future of the Uchiha clan in Boruto, fans have noticed that this incredible eye power remains largely untapped by her. Unlike her predecessors, Sarada has never copied a technique using the Sharingan, and she seldom uses it to its fullest potential. However, Sarada does harness the Sharingan’s power, primarily for the Chidori technique to help her stay alert for counterattacks. Regrettably, in most other situations, the Sharingan seems almost redundant for Sarada Uchiha. This isn’t a reflection on her skills but rather a sign of the writer’s inconsistency in the storyline.

Regarding Sasuke Uchiha, it’s evident that the strength of his powers has significantly decreased in Boruto. Mostly, he relies on just one ability, Amaterasu, which appears sporadically. Additionally, he employs the Sharingan primarily to decipher swift movements, and occasionally for Chidori. It’s unfortunate that the Sharingan, already underutilized in his case, is used even less now. To add to the disappointment, Sasuke also lost his Rinnegan, leaving him with only one Mangekyo Sharingan, a power that was already scarcely utilized initially.

Lack Of Mangekyo Sharingan In Boruto So Far

Sasuke And Sarada Need To Step Thier Game Up

In the Boruto series, similar to how the story didn’t fully demonstrate the basic abilities of the Sharingan, it appears the Mangekyo Sharingan isn’t showing any significant differences. Sasuke Uchiha had the Mangekyo Sharingan from the start but seldom employed it in battles, as fans are aware. His use of the Mangekyo Sharingan was primarily limited to Amaterasu a few times and Susanoo on two occasions, one of which was in a movie written by Kishimoto. He also used it against Jigen during their fight, an exciting moment indeed. However, fans know that the Susanoo from this battle was weakened in combat and not very effective. Afterwards, Sasuke lost an eye, leaving him with only one Mangekyo Sharingan. Yet, he hasn’t utilized its powers since then, further emphasizing the fact that the Sharingan is underutilized in the Boruto series.

I want to be the Hokage, like Lord Seventh! — Sarada Uchiha

Regarding Sarada, the character written by Ikemoto, it seems he hasn’t fully explored her potential yet, which means the Sharingan ability isn’t being used to its full extent. Despite awakening the Mangekyo Sharingan early in Boruto, we haven’t seen her utilize this power since the timeskip. Although fans hope she’ll use it soon, as of now, Sarada appears unaware that she possesses this eye, according to what fans currently know.

In a vast universe teeming with potent personalities and innovative energy systems like Karma, as well as advanced scientific advancements including the Otsutsuki, the Sharingan appears somewhat outdated, which is disappointing to acknowledge, considering its significant role in shaping the cosmos for so long.

Can Sarada Put The Sharingan Back Where It Belongs?

Sarada Still Has The Chance To Show Her Full Capabilities

As an observer, I note that Sarada Uchiha, as far as her admirers are aware, hasn’t utilized her Mangekyo Sharingan ability just yet in Boruto Part 2. Although she activated this power towards the end of Boruto Part 1, it remains unseen in the current series. This might be due to her strategically saving it for a more formidable adversary. Alternatively, it could be that she’s completely oblivious about how to employ this eye, which would certainly explain the mounting frustration among her fans.

In other words, it’s clear that Sarada will eventually acquire the Mangekyo Sharingan. When she does, we can only anticipate that her abilities will be strong enough to reestablish the prestige of the Sharingan-wielding Uchiha clan. It is crucial for Sarada’s Mangekyo Sharingan techniques to be exceptionally powerful, perhaps even surpassing those of her father. If she can achieve this level of power, it might prompt the author, Ikemoto, to give Sarada a more prominent role in the story. This would be particularly significant since she could then team up with Boruto Uzumaki on equal footing.

Despite Sarada’s perceived underwhelming performance and repeated Sharingan nerfs in Boruto, it underscores the author’s commitment to addressing these issues. Fans can only anticipate that the Uchiha clan will receive the attention they warrant, and that the Boruto series will significantly improve over time. To achieve this, we should closely follow Sarada Uchiha, the leading character of Boruto, as she confronts powerful adversaries like Ryu, Hidari, and others.
