Naruto: Kishimoto Has Already Revealed The Strongest Kekkei Genkai, & It’s Not Wood Release

This post contains spoilers for Naruto.

In the world of Naruto, an abundance of formidable characters reside, each endowed with distinctive talents by the author. The strength of these Naruto characters can escalate to levels equivalent to that of a Kage, given their received power.

Generally, these powers were typically held by a limited number of individuals. For instance, Wood Release, a unique ability known as Kekkei Genkai, gained prominence through Hashirama Senju. Although many consider Wood Release to be the most coveted Kekkei Genkai, it’s actually not always the case.

The Rinnegan Is The Strongest Kekkei Genkai

The Rinnegan Is The Most Powerful Eye In Naruto

The Rinnegan is among the three powerful eye abilities, which also include the Byakugan and Sharingan. Unlike its counterparts, the Rinnegan didn’t make an appearance until later in the narrative, and overall, Kishimoto made a wise choice by introducing it then. If he had introduced the Rinnegan earlier, it could have led to numerous complications and potentially harmed the storyline.

In the story, Nagato Uzumaki was the initial bearer of the Rinnegan. Madara picked him as the host for his Rinnegan due to his lineage being the Uzumaki clan, renowned for their immense chakra reserves. Because of this unique lineage, Nagato eventually acquired the Rinnegan. While it took time for him to fully grasp its power, once he did, he transformed into an unstoppable force in battle.

Initially, it was thought that the Rinnegan bestowed only a few capabilities, but as the story progressed, this understanding expanded. For instance, the Rinnegan empowers its bearer to perceive the chakra flow within an individual, which can be advantageous in identifying vulnerabilities and securing victories swiftly. Moreover, the Rinnegan grants the user an extraordinary aptitude for mastering any jutsu almost instantaneously. Remarkably, a Rinnegan bearer is capable of employing all five nature releases. The Rinnegan’s other abilities encompass:

1. The ability to travel through time and space using the Tsukuyomi technique.
2. The power to create illusions that manipulate the senses with the Sharingan-enhanced Genjutsu.
3. The ability to reverse the flow of time with the Kama Suirentai jutsu.
4. The capacity to manipulate one’s own life force with the Rinne Rebirth technique.
5. The potential for immense power through the Rinne Sharingan, a rare and potent evolution of the Rinnegan.

  • Manipulating the forces of attraction and repulsion
  • Making mechanical adjustments to the body
  • Extracting souls
  • Summoning a plethora of animals
  • Absorbing Chakra
  • Gaining access to King of Hell

Most of these abilities are highly hazardous and could potentially cost someone their life in an instant if caution isn’t exercised. A skilled individual employing the Rinnegan can virtually erase a vast area with just one attack. Tendo Pain, who had command over both repelling and attracting forces, utilized them to demolish the Hidden Leaf Village completely.

Having the capacity to seize another person’s chakra and capture their soul is undeniably a deadly skill. Nagato utilized these talents with precision, but it was only when he was resurrected by Kabuto that he could do so. If he had been well during his invasion of the Hidden Leaf, there’s no question that Naruto or any other villager would have stood a chance against him.

The Wood Release Is Still A Powerful Kekkei Genkai

Hashirama Used The Wood Release To The Fullest

From my perspective, while the Rinnegan undeniably holds an impressive power, it doesn’t diminish the sheer might of the Wood Release. In the world of Naruto, the Wood Release stands as one of the most formidable abilities, almost defying conventional boundaries. Case in point: Hashirama, with his Kekkei Genkai, could easily subdue Tailed Beasts and even effortlessly shattered Madara’s complete Susanoo. What’s more, Wood Release enables the absorption and suppression of another person’s chakra. Quite remarkable indeed!

After Hashirama, no other ninja in Naruto quite matched his ability to harness the Wood Release. While Yamato was proficient, he couldn’t compare to the First Hokage’s prowess. Given that Kishimoto aimed to avoid creating another exceptionally powerful Wood Release user, it makes sense that he didn’t have additional characters master this technique to a similar extent, as it would make the stories more challenging for the protagonists to win.

As an observer, I can’t help but admire Masashi Kishimoto’s genius in nurturing the series to its full bloom. However, even such a talented author as him wasn’t immune to making a significant misstep – the introduction of the Otsutsuki clan into the narrative. These extraterrestrial entities were far beyond the reach of any Hokage in terms of power, creating an enormous challenge for our protagonists to overcome their strength.

This decision was met with mixed feelings among fans, who often considered it Kishimoto’s most questionable move. Nevertheless, given his penchant for intricate storytelling, it’s not impossible to speculate that he intended this plot twist as a foundation for a potential sequel.
