This article contains spoilers for Naruto’s Final Arc.
The *Naruto* series featured many powerful ninjas throughout history, and while some faded into obscurity, others became legends. Hashirama Senju, the first Hokage of Konoha, is one of those legendary figures, widely known for his incredible strength within the story.
The flashback showed viewers a taste of Hashirama’s power in battle, and we saw another display of his strength when he returned during the Fourth Great Ninja War. However, despite this, Hashirama wasn’t actually the strongest shinobi. Many other fighters surpassed him during that war, meaning he wasn’t even close to being the most powerful.
Hashirama Was Labeled the God Of Shinobi
Hashirama And Hiruzen Are Two Gods of Shinobi

Very few ninjas in the world of *Naruto* are considered godlike, and Hashirama Senju is definitely one of them. He was famously known as the God of Shinobi and is highly respected as such. Hiruzen Sarutobi, the Third Hokage of Konoha, also earned this title of God of Shinobi.
Hashirama Senju dreamed of a world where children wouldn’t needlessly die in war, and where lasting peace would finally be possible.
Hashirama was famously incredibly strong. As the reincarnation of Asura Otsutsuki, he naturally had a lot of energy, and his rigorous training during the Warring States Era helped him become as powerful as he was.
Hashirama was a uniquely powerful ninja, known for his rare Wood Release ability. Combining this with his mastery of Sage Mode made him incredibly difficult to defeat. At his peak, he was a formidable opponent, even capable of defeating his rival, Madara Uchiha, as he famously did at the Valley of the End.
All The Six Paths Power Users Surpassed Hashirama Senju

- Naruto, Sasuke, The Ten Tails Jinchuriki Rank Above
- Those With Otsutsuki Powers Are Also Stronger
Hashirama Senju was famously a powerful fighter, but he wasn’t the absolute strongest ninja in the Naruto series. The Fourth Great Ninja War showcased many incredibly skilled shinobi, and some of them proved to be even more powerful than Hashirama.
I’m currently the most powerful person alive. Thanks to my Rinnegan and abilities like immortality and reincarnation, I have countless possibilities at my disposal! – Sasuke Uchiha
Fans first saw Obito Uchiha exceed Hashirama’s power right after becoming the host of the Ten-Tails. His strength reached a whole new level. Madara Uchiha also surpassed Hashirama at that point. More significantly, both Naruto and Sasuke eventually surpassed Hashirama and Obito, gaining the power of the Six Paths.
Those with the power of the Otsutsuki clan – including figures like Hagoromo, Kaguya, and Hamura – were all considered more powerful than Hashirama Senju.
Might Guy Also Surpassed Hashirama Senju

Perhaps the most surprising feat was Might Guy, an otherwise ordinary ninja, exceeding the power of Hashirama. He became strong enough to seriously wound Six Paths Madara. While many characters in Naruto eventually surpassed Hashirama’s abilities, Might Guy’s achievement stood out. Thanks to Naruto’s help, he even survived using the incredibly dangerous Gate of Death technique. In the Boruto series, even more characters have reached power levels far beyond Hashirama’s.
The next chapter of *Boruto: Two Blue Vortex* will be released on September 19, 2025, at 10 AM Eastern Time / 3 PM Coordinated Universal Time. Fans can read it for free on the Manga Plus and Shonen Jump apps.
