This article contains spoilers from the Naruto series.
Masashi Kishimoto, the creator of Naruto, excels at crafting compelling villains. The series features some of the most captivating antagonists in anime, and the Akatsuki stand out as particularly mesmerizing for fans. They were a central and highly popular group throughout the story.
The Akatsuki were first introduced near the end of the first part of the series, but they became the primary villains in the second part, posing a serious threat to the entire ninja world. Though each member was a powerful ninja with their own reasons for joining, they all secretly wanted to create a world where they wouldn’t be ignored or rejected.
The Boruto series has introduced a new group of villains created by Kishimoto and Ikemoto, and surprisingly, they appear to be significantly more powerful than the Akatsuki. This new group is called the Shinju, and their strength is on an entirely different scale.
The Akatsuki Is An Iconic Villain Group In All Of Anime
- Created Initially By Yahiko, Nagato, And Konan
- Taken Over By Obito Uchiha
The Akatsuki has gone through several phases, with its aims shifting under different leaders. It began with a group of orphans from Amegakure, founded by Yahiko. He envisioned a peaceful future for his village, which had suffered greatly as a battleground during the Second Great Ninja War due to conflicts between neighboring communities. During this turbulent time, Yahiko brought ninjas together with the goal of protecting his country and stopping it from becoming a war zone.
Only by knowing true pain can the world know true peace. — Pain to Naruto Uzumaki
I remember when Yahiko led the Akatsuki – they genuinely wanted peace and to shield those who couldn’t defend themselves. But after Yahiko’s death, everything changed. Nagato, devastated by losing his friend, started down a much darker path. It turned out Obito was pulling the strings, twisting Nagato’s grief into a desire for control. Obito convinced Nagato that the only way to achieve peace was through fear – by gathering the Tailed Beasts and scattering them, creating a threat so massive that nations would be forced to stop fighting. Nagato thought this would prevent war, but he didn’t realize Obito was using him to try and dominate the world.
After Nagato’s death, Obito revealed his ultimate goal: the Eye of the Moon Plan. This involved gathering all the Tailed Beasts to revive the Ten-Tails and become its host. He believed that by using the Infinite Tsukuyomi, he could create a dream world free from pain and suffering.
The Akatsuki was a fascinating and intricate organization, and its strength wasn’t just in its leaders. Many fans actually found the members themselves more compelling. Over time, the group showcased a wealth of skilled and captivating ninjas, including well-known figures like Itachi Uchiha, Orochimaru, Sasori, Deidara, Hidan, Kakuzu, and Konan, to name a few. Ultimately, the Akatsuki’s incredible characters are what have cemented its place as one of the greatest villain groups in Naruto and anime as a whole.
The Akatsuki Has Been Surpassed By The Shinju
- Created By Code Using The Claw Marks
- Their Power Surpasses That of Some Otsutsuki
The Boruto series has introduced a new group of villains called the Shinju. While different from the Akatsuki, they appear to be significantly more powerful. These villains originated from the actions of Code, a former member of the Kara organization.
I witnessed Code use his unique ability, Claw Marks, on the Ten-Tails. It was incredible – he actually created humanoid versions of the beast! But the Ten-Tails, driven by its endless hunger for chakra, started attacking anything nearby that had any. Eventually, it began attacking people, and something strange happened. Their chakra and even their personalities were absorbed into the Ten-Tails, and that’s how the Shinju was born, as far as I could tell.
Shinju typically originate from a source body. For instance, when Sasuke was attacked by a humanoid Ten Tails creature, his own chakra served as the foundation for creating a Shinju that resembled him. This Shinju, named Hidari, was virtually a copy of Sasuke in terms of abilities, personality, and overall characteristics.
It’s amazing how these Shinju are connected! Like Moegi, someone attacked another Jinchuriki, and their Shinju became Matsuri. It was so cool to see Matsuri and Moegi shared a lot of the same feelings and even fought in similar ways. Then when Shinki went down in Sunagakure, his Shinju appeared, and honestly, it was obvious to us fans that it had the same kinds of abilities as the others – it was a clear pattern!
As a huge Boruto fan, I’m really fascinated by the Shinju! So far, we’ve seen five of them: Hidari, Matsuri, Mamushi, Ryu, and Jura. What’s amazing is how powerful each one is! They all come from the Ten-Tails, but it’s more than that – they also absorb the chakra of the people they’ve… well, consumed. Basically, each Shinju is like a super-powered, Ten-Tails-enhanced version of whoever they ate, which makes them incredibly dangerous fighters. People are saying they’re even stronger than Code, and that’s saying something because he was already on Jigen’s level, or possibly even beyond!
The Shinju are all incredibly powerful and pose a threat that the Akatsuki simply can’t handle. Their leader, Jura, is particularly dangerous – he’s potentially one of the strongest characters in the entire Naruto series. Unlike the other Shinju, who are formed from a core body, Jura is the Ten-Tails made human, which is what sets him apart. No member of the Akatsuki has any chance of defeating him in a fight.
The Akatsuki Are Written Far Better Overall
While the Shinju are undoubtedly very strong, a great villain group needs more than just power. The Akatsuki, despite being less powerful, are much better developed and written characters. The Shinju feel shallow in comparison. The Akatsuki excel in areas like motivation, character development, and even their fighting styles, making them a truly iconic and memorable villain group in anime history.
