Naruto: Mastering The Rasengan, Learning to Use Sage Mode, And 4 More Things Naruto Can Do That Sasuke Can’t

This list contains spoilers for Naruto and Naruto Shippuden

In the world of Naruto, an immediate strong connection develops between Naruto and Sasuke from the beginning, but their personalities and approaches are dramatically distinct. Naruto embodies a cheerful and compassionate spirit, eager to aid those around him, in stark contrast to Sasuke who is typically somber and reserved, initially driven by an intense desire for revenge against his brother for the annihilation of their clan. Furthermore, their skills vary significantly: while Sasuke can harness Jutsu from the Uchiha lineage, Naruto must painstakingly learn most of his abilities from the ground up.

Although it may seem that Sasuke outshines Naruto due to his lack of clumsiness and hot-headedness compared to his rival, there are numerous instances where Naruto demonstrates skills and achievements that Sasuke has yet to match. Over the course of the Naruto saga, these are some of the most impressive feats and accomplishments Naruto has displayed, which have remained beyond the reach of Sasuke.

6. Mastering The Rasengan

Naruto’s New Mentor Taught Him A Brand New Powerful Jutsu Ability

Naruto’s preferred technique for defeating strong enemies is the Rasengan, which has evolved over the story but always appears as a spherical burst of blue energy. Upon impact, it detonates. Originally taught to Naruto by Jiraya, he initially found it difficult to master, but eventually used his Shadow Clones to boost its power before delivering the final blow.

Rather than choosing to learn the rare Rasengan, Sasuke prefers to utilize his own version, the Chidori, a technique resembling the Rasengan but infused with deadly lightning. Given that the Rasengan is an extremely difficult skill mastered by few ninja, it’s clear that Jiraiya was not Sasuke’s teacher at that time since he had already started his journey to avenge Itachi and leave the Konoha.

5. Channel Kurama’s Power

Unlike Sasuke, Naruto Always Has A Tailed Beast To Back Him Up

If Sasuke had been born with a Tailed Beast residing within him, it’s likely that his mission to confront Itachi would have been significantly simpler. Fortunately for everyone involved, however, the one who ended up with the Nine-Tailed Fox was Naruto. Although he sometimes struggled to maintain control over his powers and had moments of uncontrolled rage, Naruto never wanted to use the beast purely as a tool for killing others. On the contrary, throughout the story, Naruto built a strong relationship with Kurama until, in the final war, the mighty fox voluntarily shared its Chakra with Naruto.

Even though Sasuke has Susano as a means to inflict damage and shield himself during battles, it’s important to note that this is significantly different from having a Tailed Beast like Kurama, who is the most powerful among them all. The first time Sasuke faced off against Naruto in the Valley of the End was when he truly understood the full force of Kurama, as he struggled to defend himself against the immense power of the beast that had taken over Naruto during the fight.

4. Activate Sage Mode

Naruto Put In The Training To Obtain A Powerful Form Which Sasuke Never Acquired

When it became known in Konoha that the extremely powerful Akatsuki member named Pain was approaching the village, Naruto quickly understood he needed to boost his strength significantly just to stand a chance against him. To accomplish this, he commenced his training on Mount Myoboku with the aim of mastering Sage mode. This would enable him to control the elements in his surroundings, significantly increasing his physical prowess, resilience, and swiftness. Although his battle with Pain was still challenging, activating Sage Mode nonetheless provided Naruto with a crucial edge during combat, something that Sasuke could only envision.

Instead of relying on Sage Mode for combat, Sasuke typically favored utilizing his personal Sharingan and Uchiha bloodline abilities to defeat his enemies. Given how rapidly Sasuke’s strength grew, it’s likely that if he had ever mastered Sage Mode, he would have become excessively powerful, perhaps even overpowered. However, since Naruto is the central character, it seems more fitting that he was the one who eventually acquired this ability.

3. Create An Army Of Shadow Clones

Naruto’s Endless Chakra Reserves Allow Him To Create Hundreds Of Clones At Once

In combat situations, many ninja, including Sasuke, often produce multiple Shadow Clones due to their limited Chakra supply. However, these clones drain the user’s own energy, which means that in the heat of battle, they are frequently employed in large numbers. Despite not being particularly fond of using them, Sasuke has shown the ability to create these clones when trying to confuse his enemies. Yet, unlike his arch-rival, Sasuke lacks the capacity to generate hundreds or thousands of them.

From the beginning of the series, Naruto has consistently generated vast numbers of Shadow Clones without exhausting his physical self. This is possible due to his seemingly infinite reservoir of Chakra, which is sourced from the Nine-Tailed Fox. This enables him to remain standing, even when managing a horde of mimics he must oversee.

2. Make Friends Easily

Sasuke Isn’t As Open Or Welcoming As The Protagonist

One noticeable trait about Sasuke is his tendency to prefer solitude over social interactions. Back in his Genin days at the Ninja Academy, Sasuke would frequently be found isolated, lost in dark thoughts about harming his brother, seemingly uninterested in forming genuine friendships. Contrarily, Naruto stands out for his extroverted and amiable demeanor, often appearing overly friendly to a point where he might seem bothersome due to his eagerness to make friends.

In essence, this illustrates the distinct methods each boy uses to cope with their solitude. For Sasuke, finding solace means seeking revenge against the one who stripped him, whereas Naruto yearns for approval and recognition from those around him. By the culmination of Shippuden, while Naruto had built a community of friends, Sasuke had few companions remaining by his side.

1. Become A Hokage

It Seems Unlikely That Sasuke Would Ever Take On The Role Of Being A Leader

Naruto’s ambition to become the Hokage has always been clear since his childhood days, but Sasuke doesn’t seem to have shared this dream. There are several reasons for this. Firstly, Sasuke is deeply focused on catching up with Itachi. Secondly, Sasuke’s character tends more towards solitude and independent decision-making, making him less likely to accept a leadership role that requires taking on significant responsibility and ensuring the safety of many others. In other words, Sasuke is not the kind of person who would willingly take on the duties and obligations associated with being a leader, such as the Hokage. Instead, he prefers to operate independently, like a lone wolf.

For Naruto, mastering the art of assuming responsibilities has essentially been the main focus throughout his journey, as he’s progressively learned to care for others and, crucially, maintain self-control during challenging times. On the other hand, Sasuke might never ascend to the position of Hokage due to the damage he has inflicted upon the village in the past. His escape, for instance, led several ninja to pursue him, placing them all in immediate peril. It would certainly raise eyebrows if such a person were to take charge of a village he had harbored resentment towards for so long.
