Some animes remain perpetually popular, and one such timeless classic is “Naruto Shippuden”. This cherished shonen series is set to open a themed café in Kyoto, Japan. The Naruto-themed café will offer a variety of collaborative merchandise, food, and beverages, all inspired by this renowned anime. Notably, it’s slated to open during springtime in Japan, coinciding with the blooming of iconic cherry blossom trees. The café’s designs even pay homage to these beautiful, blooming trees.
Starting March 20th and running through April 13th, a temporary Naruto-themed cafe is set to open in Kyoto. This limited-time event mirrors the fleeting beauty of the cherry blossoms. The Japanese news site PR Times revealed details about the menu offerings and special merchandise that will be sold at this unique cafe. Notably, the Naruto cafe is being organized by Maeda Coffee, one of Kyoto’s oldest coffee shops, and it will be accessible at five of their locations across the city.
The Springtime Naruto Cafe Menu
All the Themed Food and Drinks

Just like other collaboration cafes in Japan, the offerings at the Naruto cafe have been thoughtfully designed to align with the anime’s theme. Since the Naruto cafe is located within an existing traditional Japanese coffee shop, the menu has been carefully selected to fit seamlessly into that environment. The food and drinks available are reminiscent of what you might find in a regular Maeda Coffee shop, but they each have a unique anime-inspired touch.
The star attraction on the menu is the Naruto Shippuden pound cake, featuring a biscuit molded in the shape of many characters’ headbands. It also comes with a mini tube of chocolate icing for you to create your preferred design on the headband. Additionally, there’s the Naruto Uzumaki’s Pocket Sandwich, a compact sandwich sporting spiral-cut ham on top, symbolizing the character’s family name that translates to “spiral” in Japanese (and is renowned due to Junji Ito’s well-known tale). Lastly, there’s a unique cream soda dubbed Minato’s Rasengan soda, a blue beverage adorned with a small cutout of Minato.
(Note: Naruto Shippuden pound cake is named after the popular anime series “Naruto Shippuden”, and Minato’s Rasengan soda refers to a powerful jutsu used by the character, Minato.)
At all Maeda Coffee branches, you’ll find three common menu items across all locations, plus an additional exclusive item at each spot. For example, Sakura’s Shiratama Anmitsu Parfait (a traditional Japanese dessert), Sasuke’s Rice Ball Set, Kakashi and Pakkun’s Cream Puffs, and Shikamaru’s Mackerel Sandwich are some of the exclusive dishes. Each of these menu items is inspired by the character they’re named after, often featuring a small image of the character on the dish as well.
Exclusive Naruto Cafe Merchandise
The Only Place to Get These Goods
At the Naruto cafe, apart from the variety of food and beverages, there are unique merchandise that can only be obtained (or received) here. As a bonus, every item from the collaborative menu comes with one of ten randomly selected character coasters. Each coaster features artwork of a main character from Naruto Shippuden, cherry blossoms, and the name of the anime and Maeda Coffee. The more items you order from the menu, the more of these collectible coasters you can amass.
In addition to the items for sale, you’ll find characters and cherry blossom designs exclusive to the limited-time cafe. These range from pins, acrylic standees, postcards, character clips, hand towels, and more. Many of these items come randomly, meaning you won’t know which character you’ll receive upon purchase. To increase your chances of getting a specific character, it might be wise to go with a friend, so if you don’t get the one you want initially, you can trade designs with each other. PR Times reports (translated from Japanese) that all these goods feature unique designs.
At five cafés, a teamwork session is taking place, and starting soon, you’ll see unique items featuring a cherished cherry blossom motif adorned with freshly created sketches!
For a limited period in Kyoto, I found myself observing the transient existence of the Naruto Shippuden café, a must-visit haven for enthusiasts. It’s not just about the delectable traditional Japanese dishes, each one a culinary tribute to Naruto characters, but also the one-of-a-kind cherry blossom-themed merchandise that’s exclusively available here. Just like the fleeting beauty of sakura blooms, this café is a temporary delight, making every visit special and worth capturing for your social media feed.
Beginning on March 20th, 2025, and running through April 13th of the same year, the “Naruto Shippuden” themed café will be available at five different Maeda Coffee locations scattered across Kyoto, Japan. Specifically, these stores include the Maeda Coffee Muromachi Main Store, Bunhiro Store, Oike Store, Manga Museum Store, and Ryukoku Museum Store.
