In the world of Naruto, aspiring ninjas begin their training as genin. As they improve, they can attempt the Chunin Exams, which, if passed, allow them to advance to the rank of chunin and demonstrate their skills, continuing their ninja education.
The Chunin Exams aren’t simple to pass, and getting promoted isn’t guaranteed. Many genin fail, and sadly, some are even killed during the exams. While the world of Naruto has many genin and chunin, a few truly excel in terms of their power and stamina.
Iruka Umino
Chunin of Konohagakure
Iruka Umino was a well-respected ninja instructor at the Ninja Academy. He later became Headmaster and continued working with other ninjas. Iruka excels in core ninja skills like hand-to-hand combat and basic ninja techniques, and he’s a strong, determined fighter in battle.
Iruka Umino isn’t primarily a fighter; his true passion lies in training the next generation of ninjas. While he’s skilled and well-rounded, he isn’t as strong as some of the other chunin. He’s a respected ninja, and could become even more powerful with more battle practice if he chose to.
Shino Aburame
Chunin of Konohagakure’s Aburame Clan
Shino Aburame was classmates with Hinata Hyuga and Kiba Inuzuka when he first attended the Academy, and Iruka Umino was their teacher. As a child, Shino was known for being level-headed and practical, always prioritizing the safety of his teammates. He also possesses a unique ability: his body is inhabited by kikaichu, a special type of insect.
Kikaichu are creatures that feed on his energy, and he can deploy them in fights. He utilizes them for attacks, draining opponents’ energy, gathering information, and other purposes. He also prefers a calculated approach to battles, relying on stealth and strategy to succeed. Even with these unique skills, he’s still developing and isn’t quite as strong as some of the more experienced chunin.
Kankuro
Chunin of Sunagakure
Kankuro is the second oldest of the Three Sand Siblings and served as a loyal protector and close friend to his brother, Gaara. He’s a skilled fighter who uses both puppet ninjutsu and poisonous weapons, making him a tough opponent as a chunin.
I’ve noticed Kankuro fights in a really unique way – he uses puppets to keep his distance from opponents. It’s not just about range, though; he can set up traps and even hide weapons inside them. Plus, he uses poison, and a single hit can be deadly. Still, even with all that, some skilled chunin are able to figure out how to get around his tricks when they fight him.
Neji Hyuga
Chunin of Konohagakure’s Hyuga Clan
Neji Hyuga initially felt trapped working for the Hyuga clan, believing it would be his life’s work. However, meeting Naruto changed his perspective. He eventually joined Team Guy, where he developed his skills, including the Byakugan and Juken techniques. Neji became incredibly resilient, able to defend against both close-range and long-distance attacks, making him a formidable opponent.
Neji Hyuga is a powerful fighter thanks to his incredibly sharp vision, strong defenses, and hard-hitting attacks. While he’s one of the best, he’s not quite as fast or strategically versatile as some other ninja his age, and his attacks aren’t as wide-ranging. Still, he can defeat most opponents he faces.
Shikamaru Nara
Chunin of Konohagakure’s Nara Clan
Shikamaru Nara often seems lazy, but he’s actually a brilliant strategist. He’s skilled at anticipating his opponents’ actions and planning attacks in advance. He also frequently uses a technique called Shadow Possession Jutsu, which lets him control enemies using his shadow, forcing them to move as he commands.

Shikamaru Nara is known for his incredible ability to adjust to any challenge, which gives him a significant edge in battle. He can quickly change his plans if things don’t go as expected. However, there’s still one chunin who surpasses him, thanks to their superior speed and power.
Rock Lee
Chunin of Konohagakure’s Lee Clan
Rock Lee is a remarkably skilled ninja in the Naruto series who rapidly improved from the very beginning of his training. Guided by Might Guy, he became an exceptional hand-to-hand combatant – a taijutsu master – even as a beginner, and he breezed through the Chunin Exams. Lee is incredibly fast and can also unlock the Eight Gates, pushing his body beyond its limits to achieve incredible power.
I’m absolutely amazed by Rock Lee! He’s dedicated himself completely to taijutsu, and honestly, he’s become a total master of it. It’s incredible – before you even see what he’s going to do, he’s already all over you with unbelievable speed. He doesn’t mess around or need a long fight; he can take someone down with just a few perfectly executed moves. It’s seriously impressive!
