Naruto: The Potential For A Better Sequel Series, Explained

As a gamer who grew up with Naruto, I can confidently say that my gaming life would have been significantly less colorful without this iconic series. The journey of Naruto Uzumaki is etched into my gaming memories like an indelible tattoo, and it’s safe to say that his story has had a profound impact on millions of us around the world.

This article contains spoilers from the Boruto series.

Naruto Uzumaki, a young ninja, has an ambitious dream – to be the most esteemed ninja in his village and earn respect from those around him. Initially scorned by many, Naruto is a character who bravely wrestles with his fate using both hands. His life undergoes a dramatic transformation, starting as an outcast and eventually gaining widespread affection, ultimately receiving recognition from everyone, thereby achieving his aspiration.

Naruto’s tale is nothing short of legendary, touching the emotions of countless individuals worldwide. It comes as no shock to followers that this story has reached global fame, serving as its main reason for success. In the annals of stories, Naruto stands among the greats, and even a decade post-conclusion, people still discuss it as if it’s still in production. Interestingly, Naruto did receive a follow-up narrative called Boruto, but opinions on this spinoff are divided among fans. However, many feel that Boruto fell short of the mark set by Naruto, leading to calls for an improved sequel.

How The Story Of Naruto Uzumaki Ended In The Original Series

Naruto Fought and Saved Sasuke

Naruto Ended The Ninja War

As a die-hard Naruto fan, I can personally attest that the tale of Naruto Uzumaki was a beacon of hope and unwavering faith. Born an outcast, Naruto defied the odds by refusing to back down and staying true to his ninja ways. With a monstrous beast lurking within him, Naruto showed remarkable resilience and transformed his greatest foe into his most powerful ally. That’s the kind of character Naruto Uzumaki was, and he never wavered in his convictions right up until the story’s end. Above all, Naruto stood firm by those he truly believed in, never abandoning hope for the goodness within them – even when going to extreme lengths to save his friend, like Sasuke. Most might have written off Sasuke as a lost cause, but Naruto persevered, and that was something truly extraordinary – it’s what made Naruto Uzumaki stand out.

Through transforming his most significant shortcomings into powerful assets, Naruto ascended to an extraordinary level of strength, capable of rescuing even those who had strayed from the right path. This was a journey he embarked upon to fulfill every vow he ever made. In the finale of Naruto, he clashed with Sasuke Uchiha, who at that moment sought to instigate a revolution. Undeniably, this wasn’t an effortless feat for Naruto, but by relentlessly pursuing his determination to save his friend, he ultimately triumphed.

As a devoted fan, I can’t help but look back on the breathtaking finale of our beloved Naruto series. With Sasuke rescued from the brink, Naruto and he ended the Great Ninja War together, ushering in an era of tranquility across the world. The story then took us on a captivating journey of Sasuke’s redemption, while Naruto Uzumaki tirelessly pursued his dream to become Hokage. This remarkable ending was more than just a conclusion; it was a cherished moment for every reader, myself included.

The Beginning Of The Boruto Series and What Went Wrong

Naruto Uzumaki and Boruto Uzumaki Were At Odds With Each Other

After the ending of the Naruto series, viewers were eagerly anticipating what would follow, and that turned out to be Boruto: Naruto Next Generations. Initially, the early stages of Boruto were penned by Kishimoto himself, showcasing fresh concepts. As per Kishimoto’s perspective, Boruto was distinct, offering a unique brand of excitement. Unlike Naruto who had much to gain, Boruto started with everything at his disposal from the start, which made him not as intuitive about things as Naruto was.

Initially, Boruto Uzumaki mirrored a spoiled attitude like his father Naruto wasn’t, which was disheartening. Yet, it was this contrast that made their relationship intriguing. Over time, Boruto began to value the ninja way and developed admiration and respect for his dad.

Initially, Boruto gained significant popularity, however, as time passed, it became evident that Boruto wouldn’t achieve the same level of success as Naruto, and instead, its narrative was primarily propelled by the affection fans held for Naruto.

1. From the outset, the direction of the Boruto series was flawed in numerous aspects. To start, the narrative itself was lacking in originality. The characters, including both protagonists and antagonists, were not engaging enough for viewers. What particularly irked fans, though, was the fact that Boruto leveraged characters from Naruto to attract attention, only to mistreat them later on. This pattern persisted for quite some time, eventually leading to the degradation of the legacy that Naruto had established for its own characters. Over time, these issues took a toll and popularity waned. It is due to these problems that fans envision an alternate sequel series that doesn’t center around Boruto Uzumaki’s story.

How Naruto Can Be Salvaged With A New Sequel Series

A Naruto Series Set After The Ninja War Would Be Fun

The story of Naruto can essentially be salvaged with a new sequel. This time around, however, the sequel would be focused on the story of Naruto Uzumaki and not Boruto. Essentially, for any sequel to work in this franchise, the story has to be around characters that fans know of. If one talks about a sequel, then, Naruto is, of course, the best character to continue this story. Now, fans would wonder as to how that would even work, given that Boruto is part of the Naruto canon following the events of the Ninja War.

However, it must be remembered that there is a blank period between the war and the Boruto era of about 15 or so years. During this time period, The author can do a lot more with the story, and create a sequel that the fans can actually come to love. These stories will revolve around characters from Naruto who everyone has come to love over the years, and if handled properly, this continuation of Naruto would surely be widely loved and accepted by the fans. This would be especially true if Kishimoto was the one behind the story, or at least involved to a certain extent.

While there’s no official indication of a Naruto sequel beyond Boruto, fans are eagerly anticipating a tale set during the intervening period. There’s little doubt that such a story would capture the hearts of many and finally satisfy their long-standing desires.

Both Naruto and Boruto are available to read on Manga Plus.
