Over the course of the Naruto series, ocular techniques, also known as dojutsu, have significantly evolved. Initially, only three existed; however, today we count over a dozen (excluding various Sharingan manifestations). Among all these developed techniques, which ones are considered the most exceptional?

It’s clear that no one dojutsu can be considered superior to all others since they each have distinct functions. For instance, the Sharingan is primarily designed for battle, while the Senrigan is utilized for information gathering. To ensure a fair comparison, we will evaluate each dojutsu across three key areas: combat capabilities, reconnaissance abilities, and stealth potential.

The competition between the Rinnegan and Tenseigan as the superior combat technique is quite close, as both exhibit remarkable effectiveness in battle. In a confrontation between their respective users, the outcome would largely be determined by the abilities and skills of those individuals, since the Rinnegan’s power appears to vary significantly among its wielders.

The Rinnegan is considered the most powerful of the “Three Great Eye Techniques,” and it lives up to its reputation. Similar to the Byakugan, the Rinnegan enables its user to visualize a person’s Chakra pathway system and perceive invisible barriers. Additionally, like the Sharingan, Rinnegan users can learn any technique they observe and immediately master that technique. What sets the Rinnegan apart is that its users also have command over all five nature transformations, making it easier for them to excel in jutsu that aren’t their natural element. Furthermore, the Rinnegan grants access to the Six Paths Technique, providing a formidable arsenal of moves to outmatch any adversary they encounter. Users of the Rinnegan can also summon the Demonic Statue of the Outer Path, which can decimate an entire battlefield. Each user’s Rinnegan abilities are unique; for instance, Sasuke has powers such as teleportation and superior pattern recognition, while Momoshiki can absorb and release ninjutsu using his right and left eyes.

Over time, the Byakugan was believed to be the weakest among the “Three Great Sharingans,” but its advanced form, the Tenseigan, appears to be one of the most powerful Dojutsu for combat. The Tenseigan enables its user to activate a Chakra Mode reminiscent of Naruto’s Nine-Tails Chakra Mode, enhancing their power, durability, and speed. Even Toneri, who utilized the Tenseigan’s Chakra Mode, could match Naruto in his Sage Mode-enhanced Nine-Tails Chakra Mode, demonstrating the substantial boost it provides.

Besides the stat increase, the Tenseigan grants its user the ability to utilize Truth-Seeking Orbs – tiny orbs that can obliterate vast areas of land and grant all five nature transformations and Yin-Yang Release. The Tenseigan also bestows control over attractive and repulsive forces, powerful enough to pull the Moon towards Earth. Lastly, it’s worth noting that the Rinnegan isn’t the only Dojutsu capable of summoning massive monsters; the Tenseigan can conjure a colossal golem strong enough to engage in battle with Kurama as well.

Special Mention: The Rinne Sharingan

In discussing exceptional combat abilities, let’s take a moment to highlight the Rinne Sharingan. This eye technique is renowned for being among the best. Kaguya’s Dojutsu offers the Infinite Tsukuyomi, capable of trapping the entire world in a potent illusion. The Rinne Sharingan, on the other hand, enables its user to summon one of Kaguya’s personal dimensions to their current location, providing an advantage akin to playing at home. Beyond its unique abilities, as per Naruto: Shippuden episode 421, “The Sage of Six Paths”, it possesses all the powers of the Sharingan. It’s speculated that the Rinne Sharingan might surpass both the Tenseigan and Rinnegan in strength, but due to limited exploration of its capabilities in the manga and anime, it’s challenging to fully gauge its battle potential.

Various dojutsus are skilled at reconnaissance and data collection, such as the Byakugan and Jogan. There’s even a dojutsu from the Naruto Shippuden movie that enables its user to see a target’s future, but it should be noted that this particular dojutsu cannot be controlled or activated spontaneously, which presents a significant drawback since it is not canon and lacks consistency in usage.

The most exceptional dojutsu for reconnaissance is the Senrigan, which Ada currently owns. This unique artifact enables its wielder to observe and listen to activities taking place across all times, not just the present, but also events from the past up until their birth. To clarify, it’s not only events within this world that can be seen through the Senrigan; it can also perceive different dimensions. The ability to spy on an opponent’s strategies and understand their powers regardless of their location in the world is exceptionally overpowered. However, the Senrigan has a limitation: it cannot view spiritual and mental realms, so, for instance, a mental dialogue between a jinchuriki and their tailed beast remains off-limits to its users.

Kokugan

Best Dojutsu For Stealth

In an interesting twist, though often associated with ninja skills, Dojutsus seldom provide a tactical advantage in terms of concealment or stealth, unless one considers observing enemies from afar as such. However, when it comes to approaching opponents undetected, avoiding detection of personal belongings, or valuable objects, nothing surpasses the Kokugan. The Kokugan’s primary function is to make both the user and any inanimate object they can see diminish in size. It also has a pocket dimension where these shrunken items can be stored and retrieved at will.

While shrinking might seem redundant if your opponent can still sense your Chakra, the Kokugan offers another ability: summoning large black cubes that obstruct sensory abilities. To top it off, the Kokugan grants the user the power to create space-time portals for swift travel between locations and even dimensions, making it an ideal Dojutsu for covert movements.
