Fans of Naughty Dog have received a surprising and welcome update about the studio’s next game, Intergalactic: The Heretic Prophet. It seems development on the title is progressing well, perhaps even further along than expected. Although Intergalactic: The Heretic Prophet is probably still several years from being released, Naughty Dog is now looking to hire people to work on localizing the game – a step that typically happens fairly late in the development process.
For the past 20 years, Naughty Dog has worked solely on its two biggest IPs, The Last of Us and Uncharted. The two series are beloved by the majority of gamers, but many have been eager to see Naughty Dog put its skills toward something new. Thankfully, the community’s prayers were answered when Intergalactic: The Heretic Prophet was revealed at the Game Awards 2024 back in December. The brand-new, science fiction IP from Naughty Dog stars Tati Gabrielle as Jordan A. Mun, a bounty hunter who finds herself stranded on a remote planet while hunting down a crime syndicate known as the “Five Aces.”
Naughty Dog Reportedly Begins Localization for Intergalactic
During the first announcement of the game, Naughty Dog didn’t mention when Intergalactic: The Heretic Prophet would be released, not even a general timeframe. However, fans quickly noticed some hints that suggested a 2027 release date. Although this hasn’t been officially confirmed, it’s becoming more probable. Naughty Dog is now looking to hire people for localization roles, which usually happens later in the video game development process. This doesn’t mean the game will be finished soon, but it’s a good indication that development is progressing well.
Even if Intergalactic: The Heretic Prophet was finished on schedule, it’s doubtful fans will be able to play it in 2026. Insomniac Games, another PlayStation studio, just announced that the long-awaited Marvel’s Wolverine is coming out in Fall 2026, and Rockstar Games is preparing to release Grand Theft Auto 6 in May of next year. PlayStation probably wouldn’t want two of its major games competing directly with each other, and launching at the same time as what’s predicted to be a massive hit would likely be a mistake.

Not much information has been released about Intergalactic: The Heretic Prophet since it was first announced in 2024, but director Neil Druckmann recently described it as “incredible.” The developer shared that he’s limited in what he can say about Intergalactic, but hinted to fans that the footage shown at The Game Awards was just a small preview – “the very, very, very tip of the iceberg.” Druckmann added that Intergalactic explores themes and content that go “pretty deep beyond” what was seen in the trailer. Having found success with Uncharted and The Last of Us, Naughty Dog is probably hoping for another hit with Intergalactic: The Heretic Prophet. Druckmann’s recent statements suggest the studio believes it’s on track to achieve that.
