NBA 2K26: How to Alley Oop

In NBA 2K26, alley-oops are a fan favorite skill move, much like they are in actual basketball. For those who might not be familiar or new to the NBA 2K series or the sport, an alley-oop is when one player throws the ball towards the hoop for another to catch midair, enabling them to perform either a dunk or layup. Additionally, it’s possible to bounce the ball off the backboard for a self alley-oop, but this move is often used more for showing off.

How To Alley Oop In NBA 2K26

In NBA 2K26, you can successfully pull off a regular alley-oop by taking command of a player who has superior passing abilities, often a point guard. With a teammate making a run towards the hoop:

1. Move your chosen player towards the perimeter to initiate the play.
2. As your teammate positions themselves under the basket, use the right stick to flick upwards and pass the ball towards them for an alley-oop.
3. Your teammate should catch the ball and perform a powerful slam dunk if timed correctly.

  • PlayStation: Double-tap Triangle
  • Xbox: Double-tap Y

This will throw the ball toward the hoop to be caught.

Alley-oops are best on the fast break in a 2 vs 1 situation or after a pick-and-roll play.

When controlling just the passer, their actions will suffice. But if they’re managing the entire team or the receiver, additional instructions will be necessary to complete the task.

Receiving The Alley-oop

Upon catching an alley-oop, a small icon featuring a clickable button will appear. Inside this icon is a circular timer marked with a white indicator. Your goal is to press the button when the timer aligns with the marker.

  • PlayStation: Square
  • Xbox: X

In NBA 2K26, when you play online, particularly on challenging levels, the button for receiving passes changes randomly each time. For PlayStation users, it could be Square, Triangle, Circle, or Cross. Meanwhile, Xbox players will find themselves using X, Y, B, or A. This is a fresh addition to the game.

How To Alley Oop To Self In NBA 2K26

In a one-on-one situation, self alley-oops are most effectively executed when the attacking player has an advantage in size and strength. However, it’s important that they are proficient in passing and possess enough agility to perform a slam dunk. They can also be used to display skill during open fast breaks.

Self alley-oops in NBA 2K26 have different controls compared with last season’s game.

Engage in practicing self alley-oops, individual skills, and shooting within the Freeplay option available under the ‘Learn 2K’ tab. In simpler terms, this means playing and honing your basketball skills such as alley-oops, personal moves, and shooting, using the Freeplay feature found within the Learn 2K section.

In NBA 2K26, you can execute a self alley-oop by moving towards the basket and simultaneously pressing the designated keys.

  • PlayStation: Square & Triangle
  • Xbox: X & Y

Upon tossing the ball, aim for it to bounce off the backboard. As the player jumps to grab it, a button icon with a timer will become visible.

  • PlayStation: Square
  • Xbox: X

Players should aim to click the button as the timer completes its cycle and reaches the white marker near its base. Pressing the button before or after this point may result in an unsuccessful dunk or layup.
