Netflix Downplays Value of WB Games, Calls Division “Minor” in Deal

On December 5th, Netflix and Warner Bros. Discovery announced a deal where Netflix will acquire Warner Bros.’ gaming division. This means Netflix will now own all of Warner Bros. Games and its studios.

Netflix hadn’t publicly discussed the future of Warner Bros.’ gaming division. However, on December 8th, Netflix Co-CEO Gregory Peters made the first official comments about the company’s plan to buy WB Games.

Peters explained that WB Games wasn’t originally included in the financial projections for the deal. He stated that, although they have talented teams and studios, the value of their game library wasn’t considered during the initial assessment.

Peters explained that despite the company’s positive contributions to gaming, they weren’t considered a major factor in the overall picture from the beginning. He stated, “While they definitely have been doing some great work in the game space, we actually didn’t attribute any value to that from the get-go because they’re relatively minor compared to the grand scheme of things.”

We’re really pleased with how well some of the facilities we’ve created – Hogwarts is a prime example – are performing. We believe we can leverage that success in our current offerings, as they have excellent studios and a talented team. We see a real opportunity for collaboration, but it’s important to note that we haven’t yet included this potential partnership in our financial projections.

If Netflix successfully acquires Warner Bros. in 2026, it will gain ownership of several major game studios, including Avalanche Software, Rocksteady Games, TT Games, and NetherRealm Studios. This would put popular games like Hogwarts Legacy and Mortal Kombat, as well as a potential new Batman game currently in development, all under the Netflix brand.

Fans might be disappointed to learn that gaming wasn’t a key factor in assessing the company’s worth. However, it’s hard to get a clear picture of the company’s true feelings about gaming based on those statements alone.

We’ll really see what happens once they actually own all the studios, assuming the deal goes through.
