Netflix has a significant announcement lined up for May. The streaming titan is likely to share news about various series, such as updates on the eagerly awaited second season of One Piece.

The popular manga series by Eiichiro Oda, transformed into live-action, made its Netflix debut in August 2023. Actors like Iñaki Godoy (as Monkey D. Luffy), Emily Rudd (Nami), Mackenyu (Zoro), Jacob Romero (Usopp), and Taz Skylar (Sanji) were among the stars. The initial season was met with praise, both from fans and critics, who appreciated its adherence to the original storyline. Factors that stood out included the lively acting of the cast members and the impressive visual effects. Due to its success, Netflix announced Season 2 just two weeks after its premiere. Yet, it’s been nearly two years now, and we haven’t received any concrete update about when the next season will be released. However, there are whispers that significant news is on the horizon.

The independent Netflix enthusiast website, Netflix Tudum (formerly Twitter), has unveiled its lineup for X, showcasing all the latest news from Netflix, including upcoming releases and what’s in store next. Included on this list are shows such as “One Piece”, “Wednesday”, “Happy Gilmore 2”, “Stranger Things”, “Frankenstein”, “Wake Up Dead Man: A Knives Out Mystery”, “The Rip”, “Emily in Paris”, “Love is Blind”, “The Life List”, “America’s Sweethearts: Dallas Cowboys” and “WWE”. Given that “One Piece” leads the list, fans are eagerly anticipating a significant update about its second season, possibly a first full trailer or an official release date.

Season 2 of “One Piece” completed filming in February, and to celebrate, the cast and crew shared a photo on Instagram of themselves dressed up in costumes inspired by their anime characters. Fans quickly noticed that Rudd’s portrayal of Nami closely resembled her character in the anime, with orange hair, a blue-green top, black skorts with rings, brown boots, and a sling bag. The fans also appreciated the costumes of Usopp and Santi. It was additionally confirmed that several new characters, including popular character Chopper, will be joining “One Piece” Season 2. Mackenyu mentioned that he had already met the character on set, describing him as “the cutest.” Joe Manganiello is also set to make his debut in the upcoming season, playing the role of Crocodile.

As a passionate One Piece fan, I’ve been in the dark about Season 2 for quite some time now. But, my heart skipped a beat when I heard about Tudum, Netflix’s global fan event happening on May 31! Remember back in February, when Netflix didn’t include One Piece in their list of projects for this year? It left me feeling a bit downhearted. Yet, here I am, still holding onto hope that One Piece might make an appearance later in the year. Here’s crossing my fingers and toes tight that Tudum sheds some light on this!

In addition to revealing the exact release date, it would be advantageous for Netflix to unveil a trailer for “One Piece” Season 2 as well. Given that the season is expected to air later this year, a teaser would be beneficial since the launch is likely to occur within a few short months. With production timelines typically lasting six to nine months, there’s a strong possibility that Season 2 could premiere in the latter half of the year or even earlier.
