In the second season of Netflix’s “One Piece,” several story arcs will unfold, with the Drum Island arc being one that fans are eagerly waiting for. This arc introduces a number of significant characters as the Straw Hats crew lands on a wintry island. The first appearances of Marshall D. Teach, also known as Blackbeard, and Portgas D. Ace, or Fire Fist Ace, are among the highlights in this arc. Additionally, the Drum Island arc introduces some crucial narrative characters, such as Tony Tony Chopper, the latest addition to the Straw Hats crew.
There’s a lot of anticipation surrounding Netflix’s second season of One Piece, as both new and long-term fans have high hopes following the success of the first season. The question remains: Can the upcoming live-action adaptation match or surpass the greatness of its predecessor? If the series can effectively recreate crucial scenes and moments from the Drum Island arc, the future of the show could be incredibly bright, to put it mildly.
The Drum Island Arc Will Have Spectacular Set Designs and Special Effects

Drum Island may appear to be a massive snow-covered nation at first glance, yet recreating its unique royal characteristics requires meticulous work. Similar to fairy tale landscapes from Europe, this snow kingdom hides a charming village and an imposing castle perched atop a mountain. In a recent interview on the Netflix One Piece TikTok account, Ty Keogh (who portrays Dalton), expressed his admiration for the outdoor set of Drum Island, but the aspect that truly amazed him was Wapol’s throne room.
Previously released tour and marketing materials for season 2 of One Piece primarily highlighted Loguetown and Twin Cape, which were visually stunning. Each set, many elements of which serve as hidden references or “easter eggs,” seem to have been directly lifted from the comic book or animated series. Given the exceptional creativity behind these two sets, fans can anticipate that Drum Island will be equally, if not more, awe-inspiring.
Apart from the impressive backdrops, the special effects employed in Netflix’s adaptation of One Piece are noteworthy. Drum Island serves as the platform for the debut of the initial two Zoan devil fruit users in the narrative. Given the buzz surrounding these Zoan transformations, expectations for this storyline will be running high. If season 1 of One Piece demonstrated anything, the remake skillfully brings Oda’s vision to life and delivers a magical realism experience.
Tony Tony Chopper and His Heartbreaking Backstory Will Be Revealed In One Piece Season 2

Each member of the Straw Hat crew possesses their unique backstory, many of which are marked by sorrow. Out of all Luffy’s companions, Tony Tony Chopper’s origin story stands out as particularly heart-wrenching. As a young reindeer, he was shunned by his herd due to his blue nose at birth. After consuming the Human-Human fruit, he no longer resembled other reindeers. This forced him into exile. With no other options, he chose to transform into a human and integrate with the nearby village, which only added to his suffering.
After being expelled from his herd and attacked by villagers, leaving him injured in the snow, luckily an unconventional doctor intervened for Chopper. This kind-hearted soul, Dr. Hiriluk, adopted Chopper, disregarding the fact that he was a chattering reindeer. Over time, he grew to be more like a father to Chopper, even bestowing his own name upon him and imparting knowledge about life. Yet, with the doctor’s approaching demise, Chopper frantically searches for a cure, but instead faces an unexpected turn of events.
Chopper’s past is shown to illustrate the hardships endured by the island kingdom of Drum under King Wapol’s reign. The series viewers will witness Dalton bravely challenging the oppressive king, and eventually, after Dr. Hiriluk’s death, his friend Dr. Kureha adopts Chopper and educates him in medicine, carrying out the dying scientist’s wishes to pass on his knowledge.
The One Piece Live-Action Could Have a Darker Interpretation Than the Anime

In a fresh take on “One Piece,” Netflix’s remake leans heavily into the graphic and dark elements found in the original manga. While Drum Island may not initially seem grim, certain scenes could prove quite unsettling. The use of Wapol’s Munch-Munch Fruit abilities is likely to be among the most uncomfortable moments, particularly when deployed on human characters. This is reminiscent of the shock fans felt during season 1, when Arlong grew his teeth during his fight with Luffy.
In the Drum Island storyline, there’s a good chance that we’ll see some intense and brutal scenes given the high level of violence. Chopper’s past serves as a clear indication of this. Similarly, Luffy’s climb to the top of the Drum Rock with an ailing Nami and an injured Sanji promises to be equally challenging. Given Luffy’s previous frostbitten journey was grueling, it seems that Netflix’s One Piece series will underscore just how difficult this ascent was for our beloved Straw Hat captain.
In a different, yet equally poignant phrasing: The demise of Dr. Hiriluk atop Drum Rock, as portrayed in Netflix’s live-action adaptation, carries an even heavier emotional weight than its depiction in the manga and anime. While the original versions were undeniably heartrending, the realism injected into this remake has the potential to make Dr. Hiriluk’s death scene almost indescribably tragic.
New and Existing Fans Will Likely Enjoy the Remake’s Plot and Characters

I can’t help but be captivated by the gripping tale of the Drum Island arc. Its heartwarming, climactic conclusion leaves a lasting impact, and I find myself drawn in even more as we uncover the mysteries surrounding intriguing characters. The plot just gets richer and deeper with each new revelation!
Fans should brace themselves for a thrilling ride of feelings, with humorous interactions between Chopper and his future teammates, as well as the continuation of a wise doctor’s legacy in the snowy kingdom, ensuring that every moment in the last chapter of Netflix’s One Piece reboot will be anything but boring.
