Netflix's Under Paris Is Getting A Sequel

As a seasoned gamer with a penchant for both virtual and cinematic adventures, I must say that the news of a sequel to Under Paris has got me absolutely thrilled! Having navigated through countless underwater terrains in my gaming life, from the depths of the ocean in Subnautica to the treacherous waters of Far Cry 3’s Rook Islands, I can confidently say that Xavier Gens’ vision for a submerged Paris is an intriguing and chilling prospect.

The upcoming sequel to the Netflix thriller “Under Paris,” which features sharks in the heart of Paris, has been announced according to Variety. The original cast members, Nassim Lyes (Adil) and Bérénice Bejo (Sophia), will reprise their roles in the new installment.

In the movie “Under Paris,” initially made available on Netflix on June 5, 2024, Adil and Sophia express their concern that the upcoming triathlon might be canceled due to a shark attack that resulted in a man’s death. Joining forces with an environmentalist named Mika (played by Léa Léviant), they deliberate on possible solutions for the situation.

Xavier Gens is the director behind ‘Under Paris’, and his past films include ‘Hitman’, ‘Farang’, and ‘Budapest’. It’s intriguing to see how he’ll spin a tale in the sequel of ‘Under Paris’. As Gens mentioned in an interview with Variety this year, a sequel will be set in Paris completely submerged under water. This certainly seems like it could make for a chilling and memorable horror movie experience. Already, fans can envision the main and secondary characters battling to stay alive as they witness this catastrophic flood unfold.

As I sat down for an engaging chat with The Hollywood Reporter, I couldn’t help but reminisce on my deep-rooted love for the chilling masterpiece, Jaws. This timeless horror classic has been a significant influence in my own shark-themed filmmaking journey. Moreover, I shared some insights about the eerie tone I aimed to capture in my movie, drawing inspiration from the suspenseful and terrifying atmosphere that Spielberg so skillfully crafted in Jaws.

In my vision, I aimed to capture each shark scene as if they were real-life documentaries. The initial ten minutes should create a sense of deep engagement and intensity that envelops viewers completely. Furthermore, I desired the suspenseful and action-packed sequences to match the adrenaline-pumping pace of top-tier American movies.

Back in June 2024, I stumbled upon a post by the legendary Stephen King on his favorite platform, expressing his admiration for the game “Under Paris.” As reported by The Independent, this master of horror penned down his thoughts about it.

Initially, I assumed that “UNDER PARIS” would be a humorous film similar to “SHARKNADO“, but after seeing numerous recommendations on Twitter, I decided to watch it anyway. To my surprise, it turned out to be quite a good movie.

There’s no doubt that the Sharknado series is well-liked, but what makes Under Paris stand out is its blend of amusement and a thoughtful environmental message. It’s enjoyable to watch characters who are both intelligent and compassionate. The film offers an excellent mix of suspenseful and witty scenes, and it’s exciting to anticipate Sophia and Aldi reappearing in the next installment.

As reported by Variety, it’s possible that filming for the second “Under Paris” movie could start towards the end of 2026, given that the project is currently in its early stages of development.
