Netflix’s Wednesday Season 2: Will Tyler Galpin Get a Chance at Redemption?

Summary

  • Tyler Galpin revealed as Hyde Monster in “Wednesday” Season 1, but Season 2 should make him a positive character.
  • Fans speculate on Tyler’s future in Wednesday Season 2; hope for redemption and resolution with Wednesday Addams.
  • Showrunners confirm Tyler’s return to “Wednesday” Season 2, hint at his storyline; new villains expected.

During the entire first season on Wednesday, the mysterious figure known as the Hyde Monster loomed ominously, leaving everyone guessing about their identity. Just like other viewers, I was taken aback when it turned out to be Tyler Galpin who was hiding beneath the Hyde Monster persona, given his close bond with Wednesday Addams (Jenna Ortega). This revelation came as a shock since they share such a strong friendship.

Hunter Doohan will reprise his captivating character in the second season of Wednesday, and based on a quick glimpse of Tyler at Willow Hill, I can’t help but wonder about the extent of his role. Although he was the main antagonist in the first season, I believe that Tyler’s part in Wednesday season 2 should be significantly different.

Wednesday Season 2 Should Make Tyler Galpin A Positive Character

I’ve appreciated seeing other fans’ ideas about where they’d like Tyler Galpin’s storyline to go in Wednesday season 2, ranging from desiring more insight into his family history to speculating if he might reprise his antagonistic role. Nevertheless, my personal preference is for Tyler to be a good and compassionate character in the upcoming season, and I’d prefer him to shift away from the villainous arc that characterized season 1.

While the initial glance at Tyler at Willow Hill may give the impression that he’s imprisoned due to his violent nature, I believe there’s a softer side to him that doesn’t intend harm. I concur with Jenna Ortega’s thoughts on the romantic entanglement in ‘Wednesday’ and I hope Tyler and Wednesday Addams won’t be romantically involved in season 2. After observing their growing friendship in the first season, I find Tyler to be sincere. He appears to genuinely care for Wednesday and seems conflicted about his dark alter ego. It would be disappointing if this affection was a façade and he was unveiled as entirely wicked.

I’m optimistic that Tyler will manage to break free from Willow Hill and arrive at Nevermore Academy, Wednesday’s boarding school, on Wednesday, to make amends for the hurt and distress he caused her. While Wednesday may act aloof, feigning independence, I believe that discovering Tyler is the Hyde Monster was a challenging ordeal for her. It would be intriguing to witness them engage in a heartfelt discussion about whether their friendship can survive this significant revelation.

In my opinion, it’s crucial that season 2 of “Wednesday” introduces a different antagonist apart from Tyler, to keep things exciting. It would be more impactful if the identity of Wednesday’s stalker turns out to be someone unexpected. Having Tyler as the stalker wouldn’t create much suspense, and given his presence at Willow Hill, it could seem implausible too.

It appears doubtful that Tyler will receive warm greetings from Nevermore Academy students, teachers, or Jericho residents, but I can’t help but speculate if Wednesday could persuade other characters to show Tyler more kindness. At the very least, it might be amusing if the unconventional Addams Family embraced Tyler as one of their own. Given that they are misfits and rule-breakers accustomed to being misunderstood, it seems plausible for them to accept him just as Wednesday did.

What Did The Wednesday Showrunners Say About Tyler?

On numerous occasions, the creators and showrunners of “Wednesday,” Miles Millar and Alfred Gough, have brought up Tyler Galpin in interviews. Given his crucial role in the first season, this is hardly surprising. In an interview with Variety, they discussed the possibility of Tyler returning for season 2 of “Wednesday.” Gough stated:

“Yeah. Absolutely. He’s out there. That’s what we wanted to convey.”

In a chat with IndieWire and Millar, they discussed the major plot twist where Tyler transforms into the Hyde Monster. Specifically, Millar shared his thoughts on this significant revelation.

As a film enthusiast, I had always assumed that Christina was the antagonist and that Tyler, portrayed by Hunter Doohan, was the monster. It just seemed so evident, like “Ah, we knew it all along!” But what made the show truly satisfying was discovering that many others didn’t share this assumption.

Despite the fact that fans are aware that certain characters won’t return for Wednesday season 2, it’s exciting news that viewers will continue the storyline with Tyler. It’s still uncertain whether Tyler will turn out to be good, evil, or a blend of both, but I’m looking forward to another engaging and entertaining season.
