As a seasoned Call of Duty player with countless hours logged in Modern Warfare 3 and Warzone, I must say that the recent ban wave against cheaters is long overdue! The frustration of facing hackers and having my gaming experience ruined was becoming unbearable.
In response to a recent increase in cheating, causing anger among players and negative reviews, developers of “Call of Duty” have launched a major ban wave. This action eliminated thousands of cheaters from “Modern Warfare 3” and “Warzone”, aiming to tackle the problem and enhance the gaming experience by promoting fair play across both games.
Despite recurring issues with cheating in the Call of Duty series, the frequency significantly spiked following the launch of Modern Warfare 3 on Xbox Game Pass. This surge was partially attributed to a mix-up where cheaters using the PC version from the Microsoft Store were erroneously labeled as Xbox players in multiplayer lobbies. This labeling allowed them to hide their dishonest activities. In response, Call of Duty acknowledged this problem as a temporary glitch in the RICOCHET Anti-Cheat system and promptly issued an update to better differentiate Xbox and PC users, thereby strengthening cheat detection measures.
Lately, Call of Duty has made strides in their battle against unethical practices. Their Anti-Cheat team, RICOCHET, has wiped the Ranked Play leaderboards for both Call of Duty: Warzone and Modern Warfare 3, taking disciplinary action towards accounts found to be engaging in “cheating and boosting.” Over the last week, more than 65,000 accounts have been suspended across both ranked and non-ranked modes. The developer has vowed to preserve a fair gaming experience by staying vigilant and penalizing those caught cheating or boosting in the future.
Player Reactions to Call of Duty’s Cheater Ban Statement
The announcement of punishing cheaters in Call of Duty has received mixed responses from players. While some praise this move, others remain doubtful. Concerns have been raised about banned players potentially creating new accounts to circumvent the bans, which could weaken their impact. One player even criticized the current method as being similar to what was used in Warzone before RICOCHET, and urged for a more robust anti-cheat system, such as Valorant’s Vanguard, believing it would be more effective at eradicating hackers.
Although the duration for resolving cheating problems in the franchise is yet to be determined, it’s worth mentioning that apart from banning cheaters, new measures have been enacted recently. Specifically, Call of Duty has taken steps against two significant cheat providers, Raging Nation and Stealthware.
