New Co-Op Zombie Survival Game is Now on Steam

HumanitZ, a cooperative zombie survival game similar to Project Zomboid, has officially launched on Steam after a period in Early Access and is gaining popularity quickly. Despite many zombie survival games being available, HumanitZ’s success proves that players are still eager for these kinds of experiences.

HumanitZ is the debut game from indie developer Yodubzz Studios. The team has spent years creating the game, starting development long before its Early Access release in 2023. With the recent launch of the full 1.0 version, the developers announced that after years of work, including two years in Early Access and months of improvements and remastering, HumanitZ is now complete. They also plan to continue adding content, viewing this release as the start of the game’s next phase of development.

Fans Seem to Love HumanitZ 1.0

Even though major reviews aren’t out yet, players on Steam are enjoying HumanitZ, a co-op zombie survival game. As of today, the game has a “Mostly Positive” rating from users, who especially appreciate the frequent updates and the amount of content available. HumanitZ is also proving popular, with nearly 8,000 players online at its peak – the most since it first launched in early access in 2023.

While official sales numbers haven’t been released, early estimates look good. Gamalytic, a tracking tool, suggests HumanitZ has already sold over 400,000 copies. They also estimate the game sold more than 18,000 copies the week before it officially launched – a great result for an independent game on Steam. If these numbers are correct, it shows the game gained a lot of popularity before its full release. Players also seem to be enjoying the game for a long time, with Gamalytic reporting an average playtime of over 40 hours. This number is likely to increase now that new content has been added with the 1.0 update.

HumanitZ’s Gameplay Loop Explained

Like many games similar to Project Zomboid, HumanitZ focuses on scavenging for supplies, gathering resources, crafting items, and building a base. The world is filled with zombies—called ‘Zeeks’ in the game—that are everywhere you look. While fighting zombies is a key part of the game, you can choose how much you engage in combat. You might actively fight the hordes, or you might try to avoid them as much as possible.

With its open-ended design, HumanitZ is a great choice for players who like building and customizing their own bases. You can establish a camp practically anywhere on the map and turn it into a post-apocalyptic haven, making important decisions as you go. Some players might prefer setting up in cities and abandoned structures, while others may choose more remote, peaceful rural locations to avoid danger.

Although many people compare HumanitZ to Project Zomboid, Yodubzz Studios, the game’s developer, has stated that Project Zomboid wasn’t a direct influence.
