Morefun Studios’ new first-person shooter, *Arena Breakout: Infinite*, is quickly becoming popular on Steam. Shortly after its release, it reached over 30,000 players at the same time. The FPS genre is consistently a favorite on Steam, with games like *Counter-Strike 2* and *Delta Force* always being popular choices, and *Arena Breakout: Infinite* appears to be the latest game joining that top tier.
Traditionally, the number of players online at the same time has been a good way to judge how well a game is doing. For example, when *Hollow Knight: Silksong* had almost 600,000 players playing simultaneously on Steam, it was considered a big achievement for the developers. Now, a new game on Steam is showing similar promising numbers, suggesting it could be one of the platform’s most popular new releases.
Arena Breakout: Infinite Quickly Surpasses 35,000 Concurrent Players
Morefun Studios released its free-to-play tactical shooter, *Arena Breakout: Infinite*, on September 15th, following a period of closed beta and early access testing. The game quickly gained traction, attracting over 28,600 concurrent players shortly after launch – a promising start according to many. Recent SteamDB data shows that player base has continued to grow, now exceeding 35,000 concurrent players. This increase in popularity has propelled *Arena Breakout: Infinite* into the top 50 most-played games on Steam, where it now outperforms other free-to-play shooters like *Destiny 2*.
While some think *Arena Breakout: Infinite*’s popularity is simply because it’s free to play, many free games don’t become hits. *XDefiant* is a good example – it launched as a free-to-play shooter but Ubisoft had to shut it down due to a lack of players. It’s still too soon to know if *Arena Breakout: Infinite* will maintain its success on Steam, but it’s already proven popular with players, currently boasting a “Very Positive” rating from almost 4,000 reviews.
It will be interesting to see if *Arena Breakout: Infinite* gains popularity and competes with leading first-person shooter (FPS) games in the coming days. However, it faces strong competition from both new releases like *Borderlands 4* and established, long-running hits such as *Rainbow Six Siege*.
