It has been confirmed by Horror Inc. that a new installment for the 2017 “Friday the 13th” video game is being made at present. This revelation comes after persistent speculation about another game version of the “Friday the 13th” franchise.
2024 saw Horror Inc., proprietor of the beloved “Friday the 13th” intellectual property, unveiling their strategy to broaden the horror franchise across various media platforms, notably video games. Operating under the “Jason Universe” label, they disclosed collaborations with Victor Miller, the original screenwriter of the first “Friday the 13th” movie, on multiple projects. A potential new “Friday the 13th” game was hinted at in a 2025 licensing agreement, and now, the creator of “Jason Universe” has confirmed these gaming rumors.
At San Diego Comic-Con 2025, as reported by Bloody Disgusting, Robbie Barsamian, Horror Inc.’s Executive Vice President, shared some exciting updates. He revealed that the follow-up to Friday the 13th: The Game, as well as a new installment in the Friday the 13th film series (continuing from the 2009 movie), are high priorities for Horror Inc. He further added that the majority of their efforts are being poured into these projects currently. Barsamian, who was one of the executive producers for the original game, confirmed that while a formal announcement with partners is still pending, both projects are in active development and on track for release.
Friday the 13th Game Sequel Officially in Development
For enthusiasts of “Friday the 13th: The Game,” the news of a fresh Jason Voorhees title might bring a sense of relief, as the original game has been gradually phased out by its developers over the last couple of years. By the end of 2023, the survival horror game was removed from stores, making it unavailable for new buyers. As the following year came to a close, the online server support for “Friday the 13th: The Game” was discontinued, leaving players who still owned a copy to play offline with bots. With limited details about the sequel at this point, it appears that its release might be some time off. Nevertheless, the fact that the project has been confirmed offers fans of the first game something exciting to anticipate in the future.
For now, horror game enthusiasts can look forward to a variety of upcoming releases. Ranging from Bloober Team’s “Cronos: The New Dawn” to the Japan-focused “Silent Hill” game, there’s something for everyone in the horror genre scheduled for release in 2025. In the following year, “Resident Evil Requiem” is one notable horror title that fans should definitely watch out for.
