This event, a yearly celebration of Japanese gaming, also attracted prominent Western publishers like Xbox, Blizzard, and Bethesda. These publishers were particularly interested in promoting several games deemed “noteworthy” by industry insiders. Among these was an indie RPG that takes cues from Square Enix’s “Chrono Trigger”.
1995’s “Chrono Trigger” is renowned as one of the most significant role-playing games within its genre, a title it still holds today. Crafted by legendary game designers including Akira Toriyama, Hironobu Sakaguchi, Yuji Horii, Yasunori Mitsuda, and Nobuo Uematsu, this game continues to be celebrated as a timeless masterpiece. The unique blend of gameplay mechanics and time-traveling narrative in “Chrono Trigger” has left an indelible mark on the industry, with games such as “Threads of Time” being among those that have been directly inspired by Square Enix’s groundbreaking time-travel adventure.

Threads of Time Is Inspired by Final Fantasy and Chrono Trigger
Similar to “Chrono Trigger”, “Threads of Time” takes players on a journey through multiple time periods. In this role-playing game centered around time travel, you’ll explore diverse settings, ranging from prehistoric landscapes inhabited by dinosaurs to futuristic cities brimming with robots and artificial life forms, as well as numerous other environments. The characters in this adventure hail from various eras, including the Time Knight, Rye; the future-dwelling kitsune ninja who can transform, Rin; and the dinosaur-tending veterinarian, Bo.
At the recent showcase, Xbox unveiled an unexpected abundance of game titles, including the immediate release of the full Final Fantasy Pixel Remasters collection on their platform, providing players with six timeless Final Fantasy games to enjoy. Additionally, role-playing games such as Metaphor: ReFantazio and Bleach: Rebirth of Souls were spotlighted during the event.
