New Halloween Game Announced by Asymmetric Multiplayer Specialist Studio

At IllFonic, an American studio known for creating asymmetrical multiplayer games, a fresh Halloween-themed game is under development. This exciting new project was announced during Gamescom’s latest event, aiming to launch in the year 2026 on various gaming platforms.

Over the course of many years, John Carpenter’s famous horror series, Halloween, has made appearances in various games like Dead by Daylight, Fortnite, and multiple Call of Duty titles. Yet, standalone games directly related to the intellectual property have been scarce. In 1983, a game based on Halloween was first introduced for the Atari 2600. It wasn’t until October 2024 that another such title emerged when Boss Team Games released RetroRealms: Halloween as downloadable content (DLC) for its RetroRealms platform. At that time, the publisher announced they were also developing another game titled Halloween: The Game.

Halloween: The Game Revealed at Gamescom 2025

The long-awaited project related to Halloween has finally been revealed, not by the Boss Team, but by IllFonic, a Colorado-based studio known for creating asymmetric multiplayer games based on popular movie series. Known as “Halloween: The Game“, this upcoming title was showcased with a two-minute trailer during Gamescom 2025. Although the video appears to be gameplay footage, it primarily sets the game’s atmosphere and introduces Michael Myers, the main antagonist from the iconic slasher film series, rather than demonstrating actual gameplay.

The developers of “The Texas Chain Saw Massacre,” known as Gun Interactive, are teaming up with IllFonic to publish the game “Halloween: The Game.” This game is being described as a stealth horror experience where one player takes on the role of Michael Myers while others play as citizens of Haddonfield, working together to alert authorities and protect each other from impending danger. It’s essentially a multiplayer game that pays tribute to John Carpenter’s iconic slasher film “Halloween.

IllFonic collaborated with Compass International Pictures and Further Front to achieve an authentic re-creation of the 1978 original for Halloween: The Game. Just like the iconic locations and music that directly echoes the first film’s soundtrack, the developer aims to provide a highly engaging experience for fans of Halloween. In their prepared statement, they emphasized this intention. Primarily designed as an asymmetric multiplayer game, it will also cater to solo players. The Story Mode will mimic the same gameplay style, but with bots standing in for other players when playing alone.

The brand-new “Halloween” video game is slated for a 2026 launch, officially set to appear on PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X/S, and PC platforms (specifically Steam and Epic Games Store). This forthcoming project will be IllFonic’s fifth game in a six-year span, succeeding “Predator: Hunting Grounds”, “Arcadegeddon”, “Ghostbusters: Spirits Unleashed”, and “Killer Klowns from Outer Space: The Game”.
