I just saw the first look at a map for the new Halloween game, and it looks amazing! It’s called Haddonfield Heights, and it totally captures that classic suburban creepiness the Halloween movies are famous for. It really feels like you’re stepping right into one of the films!
IllFonic first revealed their Halloween game at Gamescom in August 2025. Inspired by John Carpenter’s classic 1978 horror film, the game is designed as an asymmetrical multiplayer experience, playing to IllFonic’s strengths. The developer, based in Colorado, has stated it will support both player-versus-player (PvP) and cooperative online play, and can also be enjoyed as a single-player experience.
Halloween Game Reveals Its First Map in New Trailer
Just over three months after it was first revealed, the new multiplayer horror game featuring Michael Myers returned in the spotlight at the PC Gaming Show: Most Wanted. During the December 4th event, IllFonic showed off a new trailer, giving players their first look at Haddonfield Heights, the game’s first map. As the name suggests, the level is based on Haddonfield, Illinois – the town where most of the Halloween films are set.
The new level, located under Haddonfield’s water tower, recreates the familiar, tidy neighborhood seen in the original movie—but with a terrifying twist. During the night, those same lawns and hedges transform into a confusing and dangerous maze. According to Jordan Mathewson, IllFonic’s Design Director, the goal was to first give players a sense of comfort and recognition, then quickly ramp up the tension. Every detail, from the hedges to the hallways and backyards, is designed to build suspense and encourage strategic gameplay, no matter if you’re the hunter or the hunted.
IllFonic, the studio behind asymmetrical horror games like Predator: Hunting Grounds, Ghostbusters: Spirits Unleashed, and Friday the 13th: The Game, is bringing that same style of gameplay to a new Halloween game. One player will control Michael Myers, hunting down and eliminating victims, while other players take on the roles of neighbors trying to survive. These civilians will need to stay alert, find useful items, and locate a working phone to call for help – all before time runs out. The developers describe the game as a suspenseful experience where every choice matters and can lead to unpredictable results.
As a fan, I’m really impressed with how the level design works! Every corner, from the hedges to the hallways and even the backyards, feels deliberately crafted to build tension and make things exciting. It really pays off if you’re sneaky, whether you’re the one doing the hunting or trying to avoid being found.
Choosing Haddonfield as the first playable map really highlights IllFonic’s promise to create a truly authentic Halloween experience, staying true to John Carpenter’s original film. While Haddonfield Heights won’t be the only map in the game – which was first shown in August 2025 and will feature multiple locations – the developers haven’t said exactly how many maps there will be. They plan to share more details in the coming months.
IllFonic’s previous multiplayer games started with only a handful of maps – around four or five – and sometimes received more levels after launch. Whether their new game, Halloween: The Game, will get the same treatment – and how much extra content it will receive – will probably depend on how well it sells and how many players keep coming back. The game’s core idea – a scary, open-ended experience – has the potential to keep players engaged for a long time, but only if the game itself lives up to expectations.
The new Halloween game is coming out on September 8, 2026. That’s almost a year from now, which is earlier than most games announce their release dates. It will be available on PC, PlayStation 5, and Xbox Series X/S. The developer, IllFonic, hasn’t announced how much the game will cost or what kind of computer you’ll need to play it. IllFonic is working with Gun Interactive, the team behind The Texas Chain Saw Massacre, to publish the game.
