Sony and Guerrilla Games revealed a new game called Horizon Hunters Gathering coming to PlayStation 5 and PC. It’s a 3-player co-op action game with roguelite features, meaning you’ll team up with friends and experience a different adventure each time you play. The game will also let players on PC and PS5 play together and carry their progress across both platforms, though a release date hasn’t been announced yet.
Guerrilla Games first announced they were developing a multiplayer Horizon game way back in December 2022. They described it as having a distinct visual style and a new group of characters. While some details leaked online over the past couple of years, the studio hadn’t revealed official information about how the game would play or its story – until now.

A new three-player co-op game called Horizon Hunters Gathering was quietly announced on the PlayStation Blog. Players will choose from a variety of hunters, each with different skills, weapons, and ways to play. They’ll team up for missions to defeat Machines, gather loot, and improve their abilities using a roguelite system where perks change with each new game run.
According to Guerrilla studio director Jan-Bart Van Beek, Horizon Hunters Gathering is a standalone game, but its story and characters will officially be part of the larger Horizon universe. When it launches, the game will include a story mode that players can experience alone with AI companions or with friends online. This mode will introduce new puzzles, characters, and enemies, and the story will continue to unfold even after the game is released.

Currently, Horizon Hunters Gathering offers two main game modes: Machine Incursion and Cauldron Descent. In Machine Incursion, players battle waves of Machines, improve their equipment, and then take on a powerful boss. This mode also includes a shrinking play area, similar to Fortnite, which keeps the action moving. Cauldron Descent is a longer, more complex mission where players explore an underground facility called a Cauldron – the birthplace of the Machines. Players will need to solve puzzles, fight tough enemies, and collect loot to find new gear and upgrades.
In addition to four distinct regions in the American West, each with its own difficulties, Horizon Hunters Gathering will include a central social area called ‘Hunters Gathering.’ This is where players can hang out with friends, personalize their characters, improve their equipment, and shop at various stores between adventures.
Guerrilla Games also published a 9-minute behind-the-scenes video on the PlayStation Blog, offering a closer look at these new features. The video includes a story trailer where Aloy, the main character from both Horizon Zero Dawn and Forbidden West, asks Erend to gather a team of new hunters. Throughout the video, six unique hunters are revealed, each with their own distinct appearance, personality, and how they play.
While a specific release date for Horizon Hunters Gathering hasn’t been announced, fans will soon have a chance to play it through a closed playtest. Interested players can sign up through the PlayStation Beta Program and indicate they want to participate in future tests. This first, limited playtest is scheduled for late February and will be available on both PS5 and PC. The game will support crossplay and cross-progression for players who use the same PlayStation account on both platforms. Guerrilla notes that Horizon Hunters Gathering is still in early development, but promises to share more updates and announce future playtests regularly in the coming months.
