The PlayStation Store has a lot of unusual games, but it’s especially odd when one includes a well-known character from a PlayStation-exclusive series. That’s the case with an upcoming game called 28 Floors: Outbreak, which unexpectedly features Uncharted‘s Nathan Drake in its promotional images.
It’s happened before: games have copied PlayStation properties and appeared online. We saw this with Tencent’s Light of Motiram, a clear imitation of Horizon, which led to a lawsuit and the game being removed. Similarly, an Xbox game called War Gods Zeus of Child was obviously copying God of War, even using a model of Kratos. But what’s surprising about 28 Floors: Outbreak is that it somehow made it through Sony’s own quality checks and was actually listed for sale on their store.
28 Floors: Outbreak is Nothing Like Uncharted, Which Makes Things Even Stranger
PlayStation’s content certification process might have overlooked this case because of the game’s genre. While the key art features a character model from Uncharted 4, 28 Floors: Outbreak isn’t a typical treasure-hunting adventure. It’s more conceptually similar to The Last of Us with its focus on battling infected enemies, but differs due to its first-person view and limited combat. Players will spend more time rescuing survivors than fighting, suggesting a different gameplay focus.

28 Floors: Outbreak includes the following features:
- Resource management, with breakable tools, limited medicine, and batteries that drain.
- Decision-making, with players needing to decide who to save and how much to risk.
- Each of the titular 28 floors presents a different environmental threat to shake up gameplay, which seemingly range from zombie-like enemies that can be stunned with melee weapons to toxic contamination and collapsed floors.
28 Floors: Outbreak is set to release in 2027 based on its official PS Store page.
Players currently only have a description and screenshots to judge the game by, which understandably makes some hesitant, especially after experiences with games like Abandoned appearing on the PlayStation Store. However, what’s been revealed so far looks quite promising. 28 Floors appears to have a unique style and interesting concept, making it odd that the developer used a character model so similar to Nathan Drake. While the game itself doesn’t resemble Uncharted, and other characters don’t seem to be from that series, it’s unclear why this particular model was chosen. It’s possible the resemblance is simply due to the character’s profile in the artwork, as his face is shown directly and looks different from Drake.
Sony’s Response to Nathan Drake’s Unofficial Return Will Be Interesting to Watch
Now that Sony is aware of the controversy surrounding this PlayStation Store listing, they’re likely to take action. The extent of that action remains to be seen. If the game accidentally used a model resembling Nathan Drake and the developer quickly removes it when asked, the game might stay available. However, if Sony believes the game improperly used their intellectual property, they could quickly remove the game from the store and even ban the developer. For now, fans will have to wait and see how Sony responds to this horror game and its character that appears to be based on one of their own.
A new game featuring Nathan Drake and the Uncharted series doesn’t seem likely right now. Naughty Dog is currently focused on Intergalactic: The Heratic Prophet, meaning fans hoping to see more of the character will probably have to wait for a sequel to the Uncharted movie.
