New Left 4 Dead Coded Shooter is Coming From The Game’s Creator

Mike Booth, the brains behind Left 4 Dead, recently popped up on social media, sharing that he’s working on a brand-new team-based shooter game for four players, which he’s building upon the elements that made Left 4 Dead unique. He’s also launched an application process, inviting enthusiasts to join as playtesters, suggesting that the game development is well underway.

Booth has an impressive background in the gaming sector, however, he’s now part of Bad Robot Games, a company associated with JJ Abrams, who is widely recognized for his contributions in both film and television.

‘Teamwork, Tension, and Replayability’

On a recent post in the Reddit community for Left 4 Dead 2, user Mike Booth appeared to share news about his upcoming project without revealing its name or any visuals.

He wrote:

As Mike Booth, creator of Left 4 Dead, I’m thrilled to announce that I’m currently developing an exciting new venture – a multiplayer shooting game designed for four players. This project is rooted in the elements that made Left 4 Dead stand out.

As a devoted fan, if you’ve appreciated the collaborative spirit, nail-biting tension, and engaging replay value that my previous creations offered, you’re likely to be intrigued by this new addition! It delves deeper into the cooperative formula, exploring aspects I’ve long been eager to experiment with.

Despite being at an initial phase of growth, we’re inviting a select group of enthusiasts for preliminary gameplay trials. If you’re eager to embark on our upcoming journey and contribute to molding the game from its inception, we warmly welcome your participation!

The discussion area burst with enthusiasm once people understood that it might be a spiritual follow-up to the franchise, which seemingly came to an end in 2009 following the release of Left 4 Dead 2, signifying the conclusion of the series.

2021 saw the launch of Back 4 Blood by Turtle Rock Studios. However, although it was advertised as a grisly follow-up to Left 4 Dead, it failed to gain momentum pretty soon after its release.

It so happens that Mike Booth worked at Turtle Rock over a decade back. Afterward, he moved to Blizzard, but that arrangement didn’t work out in the end. Booth shared on social media that the project wasn’t suitable for Blizzard.

It’s quite possible that a new game with the style of Left 4 Dead could be developed, given the opportunity. However, the question remains if Mike Booth, currently working at Bad Robot, will create such a game. It’s important to note that zombies are never explicitly mentioned by Booth in his statements, but one can never tell for sure.

Let me know on the TopMob forum if you’re excited for this game.
