An update is now available for the Nintendo Switch 2, focused on improving its overall stability and making gameplay even smoother. Since the console launched in June, Nintendo has released several updates to fix issues and enhance the gaming experience. This latest update, though relatively small, continues that effort.
As the launch of the Switch 2 approached, excitement among gamers remained incredibly high, with many fans wanting to be among the first to own Nintendo’s latest hybrid console. Even though it came with a significant price and didn’t have many Nintendo-made games available right away, the Nintendo Switch 2 has sold remarkably well. It’s already surpassed 2 million units sold in Japan and over 6 million worldwide this month. Players generally have a favorable opinion of the console, and it’s continuing to sell quickly, with several major games still planned for release in the rest of 2025.
So, Nintendo just dropped another firmware update for the Switch 2, following one they released in early September. The official word on their website is that it just includes some “general system stability improvements to enhance the user experience,” which is pretty vague, right? But OatmealDome, a really good dataminer, dug a little deeper. They found that the update tweaked some code related to system time and how accounts are handled on the *original* Switch. We’re not totally sure what this means for the Switch 2 yet, but it *could* include fixes to make it work better with older games – maybe some backwards compatibility stuff. If Nintendo keeps updating things at this pace, I’m guessing we’ll see another system patch for the Switch 2 pretty soon. It’s good to see them keeping on top of things! Hopefully, it makes the experience even smoother.
September brought us several highly anticipated games like Hollow Knight: Silksong, Sonic Racing: CrossWorlds, and Final Fantasy Tactics: The Ivalice Chronicles, but October looks to be even bigger for the Switch 2. Borderlands 4 is scheduled to launch on the hybrid console on October 3, and the spooky puzzle-platformer Little Nightmares 3 will arrive on October 10, just in time for Halloween. Many gamers are especially excited for Pokemon Legends: Z-A, which is finally releasing on October 16.
As the year nears its end, there are still several big games planned for the Nintendo Switch 2 in 2025. Hyrule Warriors: Age of Imprisonment is launching on November 6, and Kirby Air Riders will bring fast-paced racing on November 20. Plus, the Nintendo Direct presentation on September 12 confirmed that Metroid Prime 4: Beyond is still on track for a 2025 release, with Samus’s new journey arriving on December 4.
