New Nintendo Switch 2 Games Confirmed: Prepare to Be Amazed!

After years of whispers and speculation, Nintendo has unveiled what we now know as the Nintendo Switch 2. Though it was just a brief teaser trailer offering a glimpse at the system alongside the original Nintendo Switch, and a sneak peek at a new Mario Kart game, it’s satisfying to finally have some concrete information about the successor to the Nintendo Switch. The Nintendo Switch 2 was officially acknowledged without an official name in 2024, following widespread public excitement, and later, a leak from Game Freak confirmed its codename, much to the delight of fans.

Further updates are on the horizon, but at least fans now have a timeline to look forward to. The anticipated Nintendo Switch 2 is set for release in the year 2025, with a dedicated Nintendo Direct broadcast scheduled for April 2. Over the past few months, whispers of third-party games slated for the Switch 2 have been circulating, and it’s speculated that upcoming Nintendo titles such as Metroid Prime 4: Beyond and Pokemon Legends: Z-A might also be available on the Switch 2. However, the list of officially announced games is currently limited, with only the new Mario Kart and eight indie games confirmed, providing a sneak peek into the diverse gaming experiences that Switch 2 users can anticipate starting from January 21, 2025.

Untitled Mario Kart Sequel

The only game Nintendo has officially hinted will arrive on the Nintendo Switch 2 is the upcoming main installment of the Mario Kart series. This was suggested in a somewhat subtle way, as only brief glimpses of the game were shown in the Switch 2 announcement trailer and no additional details were disclosed. A close examination of the footage reveals 24 starting positions on a new track and a revamped design for Donkey Kong that combines his recent look with classic artwork. For now, that’s all we know, but given that Mario Kart 8 Deluxe was the original Switch’s top-selling game, expect more information about this new entry to surface soon.

Bestiario

Although Mario Kart was the initially announced game for the new Nintendo Switch, it wasn’t actually the first title officially disclosed for the hardware. The race for priority is unclear, but it’s possible that Bestiario might have taken the lead due to its February 2024 Kickstarter campaign run by Wiggin Industries. Bestiario is a Spanish-developed turn-based RPG with social simulation aspects similar to the Persona series. Set in a mystical Spain, it draws heavily on local folklore and culture within its narrative-driven adventure. Since it’s also available on other platforms, gamers eager to try Bestiario can easily do so.

My Time at Evershine

In late 2024, the announcement for the upcoming game titled “My Time at Evershine” was made by its developer Pathea Games, known for previous titles like “My Time at Portia” and “My Time at Sandrock”. Similar to its predecessors, “My Time at Evershine” will maintain the social elements akin to “Animal Crossing” and the comforting RPG features. However, due to uncertainties about its Kickstarter’s alpha period on Steam, it seems unlikely that “Evershine” will fall within the launch window of the Switch 2.

Yooka-Replaylee

Among the anticipated titles hinted at before the announcement of Switch 2, Yooka-Replaylee from Playtonic Games seemed to cause the most stir. This upcoming title is both an upgrade and a fresh take on the original 2017 3D platformer, Yooka-Laylee. Despite the series having already progressed to Yooka-Laylee and the Impossible Lair, a well-received 2.5D game, there’s still potential for an exceptional Banjo-Kazooie successor to arise from Yooka-Replaylee.

Littlelands

Despite not receiving as much attention as earlier Switch 2 games, the following titles still offer interesting features to consider. For instance, the game “Littlelands” is heavily influenced by “The Legend of Zelda,” adopting the chibi art style seen in “Link’s Awakening” and “Echoes of Wisdom.” Additionally, players can engage in farming activities when not exploring, although the balance between these elements has yet to be defined clearly. For those eager for a classic “Zelda” experience early on in the Switch 2’s life, you might want to give Martin and Kyle Creamer’s “Littlelands” a try.

Synth Beasts

If you’re in search of a fresh kind of excitement, the game Synth Beasts might just be your answer. According to creator Radhood Advance, this title is classified as a top-down action RPG Metroidvania, but it offers much more than that. For instance, it seems to incorporate a monster collection feature reminiscent of Pokemon, where the progression of the game appears to be linked to collecting these creatures. Additionally, players can switch between certain beasts for their unique abilities in combat. What makes this game stand out is that its combat system blends shoot ’em up elements, similar to a lighter version of Enter The Gungeon. Keep in mind, however, that Synth Beasts is an experimental project, and only time will tell if it proves successful.

Aurascope

From my perspective as an enthusiast, on the flip side of that very same coin, you’ll find a gem named Aurascope. It’s not about redefining the rules, but rather striving to excel as the finest pixelated platformer it can be. Masterminded by Nick Oztock, this captivating collectathon adventure weaves in some brain-teasing puzzles and RPG elements, all wrapped up in a swift 2D platformer that bears a striking resemblance to a Sonic-style run with a dash of Mario’s iconic dive. To top it off, there’s an extraordinary split-screen battle mode – a rarity in today’s gaming world. Aurascope offers a demo and has a Kickstarter campaign lined up for early 2025, so eager players can delve into it right away.

Secret Forest

Among the games announced so far for the Switch 2, Secret Forest stands out as a Massively Multiplayer Online Role-Playing Game (MMORPG). Created by Zelcar Games, this open-world title is being developed using Unreal Engine 5 and is slated for release on all current-generation platforms except the original Switch. With numerous races and classes to choose from, Secret Forest promises a large and enigmatic world for players to delve into, filled with various challenges and mini-games. A closed beta is scheduled for early 2025, offering a more detailed glimpse of the game before both the game and the Switch 2 hit the market.

LUCID

While a demo of The Matte Black Studio’s game running on the rumored Nintendo Switch 2 doesn’t officially confirm its release, along with their social media hints, it strongly suggests that LUCID is moving forward. This high-speed action-platformer blends the intricate platforming of Celeste with combat and bullet hell elements, while paying homage to classic 2D side-scrollers. The game is published by Apogee Entertainment, making it an exciting prospect to watch out for, even though it’s expected to debut on Steam before the Nintendo Switch 2.
