The popular series, One Piece, is all set to continue its thrilling journey and fans are eagerly anticipating it. A fresh trailer for the upcoming season of One Piece showcases a cherished character donning costumes inspired by their anime counterparts.
2023 saw the live-action Netflix adaptation of Eiichiro Oda’s manga and anime masterpiece, “One Piece,” garner widespread acclaim. As a dedicated cinema enthusiast, I was particularly impressed by how this production meticulously adhered to the original work, especially in terms of character costumes. It appears they are sticking with this approach for season two, as evidenced by a recent photo showcasing one of my favorite characters wearing the same iconic outfit as their anime counterpart.
A fresh photo for Season 2 of “One Piece” has been circulating on social media platforms, showcasing the cast members in their respective character costumes. Fans quickly picked up on Emily Rudd’s costume resembling Nami’s from the anime series, as well as Jacob Romero’s likeness to Usopp and Taz Skylar’s portrayal of Santi. Iñaki Godoy and Mackenyu were also present in the picture, dressed much like their Season 1 appearances, which drew less attention compared to the trio. In this photo, Emily sports a striking orange hairdo, wears a blue-green top with black skort adorned with rings or loops, pairs it with brown boots and a sling bag, while Romero is in character as Usopp wearing a purple sleeveless shirt, matching bandana, and red pants. Skylar embodies Santi in his blue top and black pants.
In the live-action adaptation, some viewers felt that Rudd’s character, Nami, appeared more subdued compared to the animated series, where her outfits are often revealing. Diana Cilliers, the costume designer for Netflix’s One Piece, explained to Business Insider that they chose to dress Nami modestly to preserve the show’s themes of innocence and purity. Cilliers described Nami as a protective figure, stating that she was less about self-promotion and more about caring for those around her.
In the live-action version of Nami’s character, there’s a shift in her wardrobe, yet it stays true to her storyline development. For example, in the initial season of One Piece, Nami wore an orange and white striped shirt much like her anime counterpart. However, it was tailored more closely and had less vibrant hues. She paired this with a mini-skirt in a teal color with silver rings sewn onto the hem. These adjustments gave the live-action Nami a more down-to-earth and realistic aesthetic, and the addition of rings on her skirt added distinctive details to her costume. It also serves a practical purpose as she can attach useful tools or accessories to it since Nami is a thief. Although the live-action adaptation uses less vivid colors for Nami’s outfits, this isn’t significant because it makes her appear more natural and less like a cartoon character. Since anime tends to overemphasize designs and colors, slight modifications in costumes are typical, especially with color tones. In summary, the live-action adaptation of Nami maintains her unique style, thereby preserving fidelity to the original source material.
One Piece Season 2 is expected to debut later this year or in 2026.
