New Pokemon TCG Pocket Crimson Blaze Expansion Reveals 15 New Cards Coming Soon

The Pokemon Trading Card Game Pocket is getting a new expansion called Crimson Blaze in December 2025. This set will include powerful Mega Evolution cards for the original Kanto starter Pokemon. While twelve other new cards have been announced, the Mega Evolutions are the main attraction, including one with an incredibly strong attack capable of defeating almost any Pokemon in a single hit, without requiring any energy to be spent.

Launched in late October 2024, the digital card game from Creatures Inc. and DeNa quickly became a hit, reaching over 60 million downloads in its first six weeks. It has remained popular with players, and Pokemon TCG Pocket actually surpassed Pokemon GO in revenue during its first year, earning around $1.3 billion by October 30, 2025. This made it the most profitable Pokemon mobile game in its first year.

Okay, so get this – a new expansion for Pokemon TCG Pocket is dropping on December 17th, and it’s HUGE! They’re adding Mega Evolution Pokemon, and as a Kanto starter fan, I’m seriously hyped. We’re talking Mega Venusaur, Mega Blastoise, and Mega Charizard Y – all super powerful with at least 220 HP and some crazy attacks. I saw the trailer and checked out the official Pokemon website, and these cards look amazing. We’ve gotten new cards for the Gen-1 starters before, but since they just added Mega Evolutions to the game a few weeks ago, these new versions might actually make the older EX cards… well, kinda useless in competitive play. It’s gonna shake up the meta for sure!

The most talked-about card is Mega Charizard Y EX, boasting 220 HP and a powerful Crimson Dive attack that can deal 250 damage when fully charged with four energy, though it does inflict 50 damage to itself each time. Mega Blastoise EX is quite durable with 230 HP, and its Triple Bombardment attack is efficient, needing only three energy. Adding six energy boosts the attack from 130 to 180 damage and also hits two of the opponent’s benched Pokémon for an extra 50 damage each. Mega Venusaur EX is the toughest of the three, with 250 HP, and its Critical Bloom attack, costing four energy, both deals 120 damage and puts two status effects – Asleep and Poison – on the target. While there’s no official word yet on Mega Charizard X being included in the Crimson Blaze expansion, it’s still possible it could be added later as a surprise.

New additions to the Pokemon TCG Pocket line, including Trainer Cards, are adding some interesting new strategies to the game. A new Serena card lets players randomly draw a Mega Evolution Pokemon, potentially helping decks that rely on luck. The Quick-Grow Extract item specifically boosts Grass-type Pokemon by allowing players to add a Mega Evolution card directly to one of their Pokemon. Finally, an upcoming Clemont card offers a more focused effect, giving players two random cards from a selection of Magneton, Heliolisk, or Clemont’s Backpack.

New cards featuring Bulbasaur, Squirtle, Charmander, Charmeleon, Solosis, Trubbish, Ditto, Sunflora, and Spritzee have been previewed. Because many of these Pokémon evolve, we can expect to see cards for their evolved forms—like Ivysaur and Wartortle—when the full set is released. However, the recent changes to the Rare Candy card in the Pokémon TCG Pocket competitive scene mean most players probably won’t be very enthusiastic about these mid-stage evolutions.
