New Pokemon Variants Look A Lot Like Pals

The charming life simulation game, Pokemon Pokopia, recently revealed a lot of exciting new details. This included the designs of several unique Pokemon that will appear in the game, such as the light-colored Peakychu and the vibrant Smearguru. Fans have also been talking about two characters – the thoughtful Professor Tangrowth and the very sleepy Mosslax – because they look quite similar to creatures from the game Palworld.

Pokemon Pokopia’s Professor Tangrowth Shares Similarities With Palworld’s Wumpo

The characters in Pokopia are all Pokémon, so instead of a human Pokémon Professor, we meet Professor Tangrowth – a smart and learned version of the Tangela evolution. This Professor Tangrowth is different from the one in the Generation 4 games: he has white vines on his head to show his age, a thick vine beard, cracked glasses, and even a Technical Machine stuck to the top of his vines.

People have noticed a resemblance between Professor Tangrowth and Wumpo, a creature from the game Palworld. Wumpo, nicknamed the “Guardian of the Snowy Mountain,” is a furry Pal that lives in cold, tundra areas. In Palworld, players who can overcome Wumpo’s tough personality will find it helpful – it can be ridden as a mount and used to carry large amounts of items.

Mosslax Brings To Mind Wumpo Botan

After people started noticing similarities between Wumpo and Professor Tangrowth, another connection emerged: Mosslax and Wumpo Botan. Mosslax is a Snorlax covered in green moss and a flower, due to sleeping for a very long time. This makes it look a lot like Wumpo Botan, which is a grass-type version of Wumpo covered in leaves instead of hair. Because Wumpo Botan is known for being calm, Mosslax might also share a similar peaceful personality.

Are The Pal-Like Designs In Pokemon Pokopia Deliberate?

Fans of Pokémon noticed the similarities between Palworld and Pokémon on platforms like Reddit and X, sparking debate about whether the connections were intentional or coincidental. This discussion comes as Nintendo and The Pokémon Company are currently involved in a patent lawsuit against Palworld‘s developer, Pocketpair.

The legal case against Pocketpair has led to some changes in their game, Palworld, like removing the feature that let players catch creatures by throwing balls. Meanwhile, Nintendo’s patent related to creature-capturing games is currently being re-examined by the US Patent and Trademark Office, and this could greatly affect how the lawsuit progresses.

Given the current legal issues Pocketpair is facing, it’s probably just a coincidence that new designs from Nintendo and The Pokemon Company resemble those in Palworld. However, some fans aren’t convinced. One Reddit user speculated that Pokemon is intentionally mocking Palworld, and another on X pointed out similarities between a Palworld creature and a new design. This has led to discussions online, with some Palworld fans suggesting Pocketpair should consider legal action against Nintendo, The Pokemon Company, or Omega Force.

As of today, neither the developers of Palworld (Pocketpair) nor their official social media channels have addressed claims that the game’s designs resemble those of Pokemon Pokopia. It’s also unclear if these similarities will impact the existing legal dispute between the two companies. Pokemon Pokopia is currently planned to release on March 5, 2026, and the situation could change before then. We might also see more Pokemon designs revealed, potentially with further resemblance to Palworld, whether by design or coincidence.
