It appears that a fresh installment of the Prototype video game series might be under production, according to a Reddit user named Bigbyy who claims to have received information during a recent study group meeting.
It’s being said that the game brings back Alex Mercer as the main character. The gameplay is rumored to include shape-shifting abilities and taking on the forms of others for “infiltration purposes”. Lastly, the setting is reported to be in the city of New York.
TopMob reached out to Bigbyy regarding these claims, and was told the following:
They mentioned that it was a YouGov survey where I was required to sign a Non-Disclosure Agreement (NDA) and promise not to reveal its contents. The survey then validated a list of features that will be incorporated in upcoming games, along with the percentage of my agreement with these features. It wasn’t a playtest, but it did clarify that these features were already planned for the upcoming games.
TopMob is currently investigating the truth behind these allegations, considering them significant enough to report on. However, since TopMob has not yet confirmed the validity with additional details or if Activision hasn’t made an official announcement, it’s advised to approach this information with caution.
The last installment of the Prototype series, Prototype 2, was launched in 2012. A port of this game was released for Xbox One and PlayStation 4 in 2015, but since then, there’s been no fresh news about the series. After the debut of Prototype 2, Activision announced that it didn’t attract a wide commercial audience, resulting in job cuts at Radical Entertainment.
