Sony is releasing an updated version of the PS5’s DualSense controller. The biggest improvement is a much longer battery life. Sony has been refining its controller design since the original PlayStation with the DualShock, adding features like wireless connectivity, touchpads, and, most recently, immersive haptic feedback on the DualSense. This new revision continues that trend, offering an enhanced experience for PS5 players.
Sony has created several versions of its DualSense controller, including the high-end DualSense Edge, which lets players personalize their experience with features like swappable stick caps, customizable buttons, and extra buttons on the back. But the next version, the DualSense V2, is set to be a significant improvement over previous PS5 controllers in one key area.
PS5 DualSense Controller Getting Big Upgrade
Tests of the new DualSense V2 controller show a big improvement in battery life. Console modder Modyfikator reports the controller can now run for over 15 hours on a single charge, even with features like haptic feedback and adaptive triggers turned on. That’s a significant jump from previous DualSense models, which usually lasted between 6 and 10 hours with limited feature use. The longer battery life is thanks to redesigned internal components and functions, including cooler charging temperatures and other internal changes.
If you’re hoping to get a DualSense controller with better performance and battery life, pay attention when you’re buying a new one. A simple way to identify the updated PS5 controller is to look for the product code “CFI-ZCT2W” on the box. This new version should be in all DualSense controllers Sony releases going forward, including the special Genshin Impact design. While Sony hasn’t officially announced these changes, this product code is a good indicator you’re getting the improved model.
PS5 is Getting Some Nice Upgrades to Close Out 2025
Sony has been steadily improving the PlayStation 5 with several updates lately, including a revised DualSense controller. In November, the PS5’s Welcome Hub got a big update with seasonal backgrounds and a summary of your recent gaming activity. There have also been smaller changes, like the ability to check your console’s serial number in the settings, and the usual performance boosts. With all these improvements, and a busy month planned, the PS5 is continuing to evolve.
Image via PlayStation December is shaping up to be a huge month for PlayStation, especially with the holidays here. On December 8th, five new games will launch on PS5, including Microsoft Flight Simulator 2024, Skate Story, and three Yakuza titles. Earlier in the month, on December 2nd, the classic Red Dead Redemption was updated and released for PS5. Plus, Sony’s updated DualSense V2 controller promises even more enjoyable gaming experiences with these new releases.
