PlayStation has announced that a special limited-edition Astro Bot Joyful DualSense controller inspired by the popular game character will be available starting October 30. Fans can pre-order this charming device, which resembles the title character of Astro Bot, from September 12. If you’re a fan of the 2024 Game of the Year winner and don’t want to miss out, mark your calendars!
Astro Bot is an enchanting 3D platformer that was launched to great acclaim on September 6, 2024. In numerous aspects, it embodied the joy of PlayStation’s 30th anniversary, and as a PS5 exclusive, it stole the spotlight at The Game Awards in 2024, outshining heavyweights such as Elden Ring: Shadow of the Erdtree, Final Fantasy 7 Rebirth, and Metaphor: ReFantazio.
Astro Bot DualSense PS5 Controller Returns on October 30
Players can soon take a piece of the popular game, Astro Bot, with them across other PlayStation 5 games, as Sony has unveiled the exclusive limited-edition Astro Bot Joyful DualSense Wireless controller. This new accessory showcases Astro Bot’s distinctive white and blue color scheme and single eye, and will be available starting October 30. However, it’s important to note that while the advertisement depicts a more expressive face for the controller, the actual product only has a singular expression.
- Pre-orders start September 12 at 10 AM local time
- Launches October 30
Enthusiasts of the game Astro Bot might be familiar with this controller since it was launched together with the game. Yet, there’s a significant change in this new one: while the first one displayed Astro Bot’s resting, wide-eyed gaze, this updated one showcases his smiling eyes, making the already charming device even more delightful.

Essentially, this new controller is an opportunity for gamers to grab a controller modeled after the widely acclaimed game, as the initial “Astro Bot” edition sold out in record time and is no longer in stock. Pre-orders for the Joyful edition will become available on September 12 at 10 AM local time. Since eager gamers should anticipate another quick sellout, it’s advisable to secure a spot as soon as pre-orders go live. Although PlayStation hasn’t disclosed the price yet, the original Astro Bot controller retailed for $80, so it can be expected that the Joyful version will follow the same pricing strategy.
100 days from now, The Game Awards 2025 will be happening, and it won’t be too long until we find out which game will succeed “Astro Bot” as the Game of the Year. This year, “Clair Obscur: Expedition 33”, “Elden Ring: Nightreign”, and “Donkey Kong Bananza” are generating a lot of buzz as potential winners, ensuring a thrilling contest for the prestigious award.
