With the release of the new Resident Evil game, Resident Evil Requiem, getting closer at the end of 2025, a recent gameplay preview has revealed a familiar location reminiscent of the original Spencer Mansion. Many are calling Resident Evil Requiem a return to the series’ roots, and this new look at the game’s combat has excited both longtime fans and newcomers alike.
The next Resident Evil game, Requiem, will return to the devastated Raccoon City after the bombing. While we’ve seen images of the ruined police station, the story will focus on a new character named Grace Ashcroft, who is the daughter of Alyssa Ashcroft from Resident Evil Outbreak. Grace will be investigating a series of strange deaths at the Wrenwood Hotel – the very place where her mother was killed. It’s likely her investigation will expand beyond the hotel and deeper into Raccoon City, and a recently revealed location has fans buzzing with anticipation.
New Resident Evil Requiem Gameplay Shows New Location Similar to the Spencer Mansion
A brief clip from the upcoming Resident Evil Requiem was shown on Japanese TV, featuring a fight between Grace and a zombie. In the scene, Grace shoots at a zombie coming down the stairs before it attacks. Fans quickly pointed out the similarities to the original Resident Evil game, specifically the battles within Spencer Mansion, but with a modern, over-the-shoulder camera perspective. The staircase’s wooden railing and wall lighting resemble the architecture found in both Spencer Mansion and the Raccoon City Police Department. Although the exact location hasn’t been confirmed, a wall covered in what look like room keys suggests the scene might take place in a staff area of the Wrenwood Hotel.
It’s still unclear if Leon S. Kennedy will be featured in Resident Evil Requiem. Producer Masato Kumazawa advised fans not to rely on online rumors, but he didn’t explicitly say Leon wouldn’t be in the game. While rumors suggest Leon could be a playable character alongside Grace Ashcroft based on game file discoveries, there’s been no official confirmation or denial about his role in Requiem.
The Game Awards 2025 starts on December 11th, and fans are hoping to see something about the new Resident Evil Requiem game. It’s unclear if Capcom will use the event to officially announce Leon’s return, but it would be a perfect opportunity to share a major update before the game releases on February 27, 2026. Capcom might also announce the next Resident Evil remake at the show. While early rumors suggested a complete remake of the original Resident Evil, recent reports from sources familiar with the project now indicate they’re focusing on remakes of Resident Evil 0 and Resident Evil – Code: Veronica.
Horror fans are excited about the recent success of the Resident Evil series after a quieter period following RE6. Both the remakes and new games have received great reviews and strong sales, which has built a lot of anticipation for Resident Evil Requiem. It’s still uncertain if the game will meet these high expectations, but a major announcement at The Game Awards could be exactly what Resident Evil Requiem needs to maintain excitement before its February launch on PC, PlayStation 5, Nintendo Switch 2, and Xbox Series X|S.
