LEGO recently launched a new Retro Gaming Console set as part of its Creator 3-in-1 line. What’s cool is that you can build it in three different ways, and it costs less than $20!
LEGO Creator 3-in-1 sets are designed for both building and displaying. These sets aren’t usually based on existing franchises like movies or TV shows, and they feature versatile LEGO bricks that can be used in many different ways, letting you build three different models from one set. The first Creator 3-in-1 sets came out in 2006, and dozens of different designs have been released since then.

LEGO recently released the 31380 Retro Gaming Console on January 1st, the newest set in a popular LEGO series. Like other LEGO Creator 3-in-1 sets, it lets you build three different models – an arcade machine, a handheld game console, and a desktop computer – but you can only build one at a time, encouraging you to take it apart and rebuild. The set doesn’t aim to perfectly copy real gaming devices; instead, it uses simple shapes and colors to suggest classic gaming styles. You can now buy it on LEGO’s website, Amazon, and from other LEGO retailers.

- Handheld gaming console
- Standing arcade cabinet
- Desktop PC
As a LEGO and movie buff, I was really excited about the 31380 Retro Gaming Console set. It’s a pretty quick build with only 268 pieces, which honestly makes it super affordable at just $19.99. While the retro gaming theme definitely hits a sweet spot for those of us who grew up with these consoles, LEGO says it’s good for builders ages eight and up. What I really like is how they created the screens – instead of just printing them like they did with the Game Boy set, they used classic LEGO studs to create a pixelated look. All three console models you can build share a cool dark blue color with bright orange details, which is a nice touch.

LEGO Group The 31380 Retro Gaming Console doesn’t come with any LEGO minifigures, which is typical for a set that costs less than $20. It’s being released at the same time as a few LEGO promotions where you can get free items, like the 30712 Celebration Cake, 40779 Year of the Horse, and 40913 Vintage Parade Car. These freebies are available until January 11th, or while supplies last, but you’ll need to spend more money to get them. To get the Celebration Cake, you need to spend $40 or more. The Year of the Horse and Vintage Parade Car require spending $70 and $200 respectively, so they aren’t available with just the Retro Gaming Console.
The LEGO Retro Gaming Console wasn’t the only new set released in January 2026. Other releases included the 42221 NASA Artemis Space Launch System Rocket, the 75441 Star Wars Venator-Class Attack Cruiser, and a new collection of LEGO botanical sets featuring a Tulip Bouquet (11501), Peace Lily (11504), Daisies (11508), and Flowering Cactus (11509). LEGO also launched a large Ninjago set, 71861 The Old Town 15th Anniversary, to celebrate the brand’s 15 years. This set costs $299.99, contains 4,851 pieces, and includes 23 minifigures.
