The new poster for the upcoming movie Return to Silent Hill, which is based on the popular video game Silent Hill 2, is receiving a lot of criticism. Many people are accusing the filmmakers of copying a poster created by a fan. The film has already faced some negative reactions due to changes in the look of Pyramid Head and the main characters, James and Maria, but this new poster has sparked even more debate among fans. It was shared recently by one of the film’s distributors.
The 2006 movie Silent Hill, even though it significantly changed the original story, has gained a dedicated fanbase over time. When director Christophe Gans announced he was also heading up Return to Silent Hill, fans were cautiously hopeful it would be a good addition to the series. Unfortunately, ongoing issues with the new film have dampened that excitement, and now the project is facing criticism for allegedly using fan-created artwork in its official marketing materials.
New Return to Silent Hill Movie Poster vs Viral Fan Art
A recent press kit from the Canadian distributor of the new Return to Silent Hill film has sparked controversy. A Reddit user, RedMasqueMedia, noticed the kit features a redesigned Pyramid Head that differs from the version seen in the actual movie. What’s more, this new design closely resembles a fan-made poster created by artist Luke Headland. While early teasers showed a unique Pyramid Head, the VVS Films poster presents a significantly altered look—including a face-like texture on the pyramid and the omission of the character’s signature gloves. Some fans are suggesting the poster is misleading or even created using AI, due to the stark contrast with the film and game designs.
VVS Films The new movie poster has drawn criticism, especially from fans who remember a striking design created by Luke Headland back in January 2025. Headland’s poster accurately featured Pyramid Head as seen in the movie’s trailers, with a dramatic background that the new poster closely copies. As of now, Headland hasn’t spoken publicly about the claims of copying. It’s unclear if the movie’s distributor will address the situation, but some fans worry this controversy could delay the release of Return to Silent Hill.

Though the remakes of Silent Hill 2 and the new game Silent Hill f have been well-received, it’s still uncertain whether the movie Return to Silent Hill will attract viewers, especially given the criticism it has faced. Return to Silent Hill will premiere in theaters on January 23, 2025.
