Serious Sam: Shatterverse is an upcoming co-op roguelite game for PC, PlayStation 5, and Xbox Series X/S, currently slated for release in 2026. It was revealed during the Xbox Partner Preview, a presentation that also included news about Hades 2 coming to Xbox Game Pass, a new expansion for S.T.A.L.K.E.R. 2: Heart of Chornobyl, and the first look at a new Hunter: The Reckoning game.
The fast-action first-person shooter series, Serious Sam, first launched in March 2001. Most Serious Sam games share a similar story: players take on the role of Sam “Serious” Stone, a time-traveling soldier fighting to defeat the villainous alien overlord, Mental. Over the past 25 years, there have been six main Serious Sam games and ten spin-off titles, including four numbered sequels, a Game Boy Advance version, mobile games, and a virtual reality co-op shooter. The latest releases, Serious Sam: Siberian Mayhem and Serious Sam: Tormental, came out in 2022. Siberian Mayhem is an expansion for Serious Sam 4, while Tormental is a roguelite twin-stick shooter.
Serious Sam: Shatterverse is a Co-Op Roguelite FPS Coming in 2026
Okay, so I just saw the trailer for Serious Sam: Shatterverse and it looks absolutely wild! Basically, it’s like they’ve pulled Sam Stone from a bunch of different universes all together to fight Mental and his alien horde again. The trailer showed about 40 seconds of gameplay, and it looks like they’re really focusing on huge boss battles, fast movement, and smooth shooting. The cool part? It’s got roguelite elements, so during each playthrough, you can pick from three different upgrades to help you out. It’s shaping up to be a seriously fun time!

Serious Sam: Shatterverse will feature levels built from hand-crafted arenas that change with each playthrough. You’ll explore both classic locations from past Serious Sam games and entirely new environments based on alternate realities where Sam wasn’t able to defeat Mental’s forces. Expect to encounter both new and returning enemies, and you’ll have access to a huge and over-the-top collection of weapons – some from previous games, and plenty of brand new ones.
Serious Sam: Shatterverse Isn’t Being Developed by the Series’ Creators
Croteam, the Croatian studio behind the original Serious Sam, has primarily focused on the core games in the series. However, since 2011, Devolver Digital has published the many spin-off titles, often with different developers taking the lead. This trend continues with Serious Sam: Shatterverse, which is being published by Devolver Digital and developed by Behaviour Interactive.
Behaviour Interactive, the studio behind the popular horror game Dead by Daylight, has been making video games for many years. They’ve worked on a variety of different game types and styles. Their latest first-person shooter, released in 2023, is called Meet Your Maker, where players raid bases built by other players.

We really wanted to honor everything that makes Serious Sam awesome, but also give it a totally new look and feel – something fans hadn’t experienced in the series before. It was all about respecting the past while pushing things forward.
