Summary

  • New sequel Shaman King Yard is confirmed as the final arc by creator Hiroyuki Takei.
  • No clear start date for serialization was announced by Kodansha.
  • The previous super star series had only 68 chapters and was published irregularly.

As someone who has been following Shaman King since its initial release back in the late 90s and early 2000s, I can hardly contain my excitement about the confirmation of Shaman King Yard! The final arc, you say? This is it, folks – we’re going all the way now! It’s a bittersweet moment, knowing that this will likely be the end of the line for this beloved series, but as a die-hard fan, I couldn’t be more thrilled to see where Hiroyuki Takei takes us next.

Following the completion of “Shaman King: The Super Star”, both publisher Kodansha and creator Hiroyuki Takei disclosed that a new sequel had been pre-arranged. This sequel, named “Shaman King Yard”, has now officially been confirmed as the final arc for Shaman King.

It’s worth pointing out that a series ending doesn’t automatically make it brief; it simply means it’s the concluding part. However, you might find the preceding installments of this series on Netflix.

Kodansha hasn’t disclosed when Shaman King Yard will begin its publication just yet, but creator Takei has already been hard at work on it. The final installment of Shaman King: The Super Star is scheduled for release on January 8, 2025, and it’s possible (although not confirmed) that they may reveal the serialization date in conjunction with the launch of new volumes around that time.

The highly acclaimed series known as “The Super Star” spanned from 2018 to 2024, yet it consists of just 68 chapters. Initially, the epic manga known as “Shaman King” made its debut in the renowned Shueisha’s “Shonen Jump” magazine, spanning from 1998 to 2004. The talented creator Hiroyuki Takei also produced a spin-off titled “Funbari Poem” (2003-2004) and the prequel “Shaman King: Zero” (2011-2014). This series gained immense popularity, leading to an anime adaptation by studio Xebec in 2001-2002. In 2021-2022, a revamped version by studio Bridge was broadcasted in Japan and later streamed globally on Netflix.

When penning “Zero,” Takei simultaneously began publishing the initial sequel, titled “Shaman King Flowers” (2012-2014), even as he remained employed at Shueisha. This series was later compiled into 6 volumes and has since been animated by studio Bridge, following the conclusion of the remake’s broadcast (it can also be found on Netflix).

In “Shaman King,” we follow the story of Yoh Asakura as he strives to become the Shaman King. However, in the sequel, the focus shifts to a new era, with Yoh’s son, Hana Asakura, embarking on his own adventure within the realm of shamans.>

Later, Takei shifted to Kodansha where he began a new series titled “Shaman King: The Super Stars“, picking up the exploits of Hana Asakura. Simultaneously, Kodansha obtained the rights for the original series and collected all previous installments of “Shaman King“. Additionally, several spin-off tales written by Jet Kusamura (and one jointly by Kusamura and Kyo Nuesawa) have been published in Kodansha’s manga publications.

In the United States, all versions of the “Shaman King” manga, including the “Funbari Poem” spin-off, are licensed by Kodansha USA. However, only digital editions of “Shaman King: The Super Star” and Jet Kusamura mangas are available in English.
