A new mod for Skyrim aims to replace the voices of many characters in the game. If finished, it will fix a long-standing issue with voice acting that has plagued Bethesda games for nearly two decades.
Starting with The Elder Scrolls 4: Oblivion, Bethesda games have often used a limited number of voice actors for many characters. While some important characters get unique voices, often performed by well-known actors like Max von Sydow and Patrick Stewart, you’ll frequently hear the same voices repeated throughout the game in both The Elder Scrolls and Fallout series. In The Elder Scrolls games, most races are voiced by just two actors – one for male characters and one for female characters. For instance, André Sogliuzzo voices every male Khajiit in Skyrim, and Pam Cholet voices all the females. Although the voice acting is generally good, hearing the same actors play multiple characters can be noticeable during gameplay.
New Skyrim Mod is Revoicing Most NPCs in the Game
The Skyrim Revoiced mod is now available on Nexus Mods. This impressive project has added new voices for 48 characters in Skyrim, totaling over 5,000 lines of dialogue. What’s great is that it also works with lines added by other popular mods, improving more than just the original game. Some of the compatible mods include Alternate Start, More To Say, and Relationship Dialogue Overhaul.
The most impressive aspect of this mod is the high quality of the voice acting. Instead of relying on amateurs, the creator, spdude, hired eight professional voice actors. While spdude plans to add even more unique voices for every race and gender in Skyrim, they note that paying actors is expensive. This mod is definitely worth using in your next playthrough and is one to watch for future updates.
